Does common sense go away after you have a kid?

I mean seriously, I'm driving home, in a pissy mood because I feel crappy, but it's just began to get dark where I am, so all the little spawns are out in their costumes. I nearly hit a group because they are STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WITH NO FLASHLIGHTS ON OR ANYTHING.....oh, it gets better....THE PARENTS ARE TAKING PICTURES....Uhh... ( Read more... )

Oh yeah, the doorbell has already rang once. Inside lights are on (hey, I have to see to type so I can rant about the little sprogs) but there are NO outside lights on.

I actually am (so far) pleasantly surprised that I have no kid-related Halloween horror stories to tell ( ... )

I'm not sure how it is in my area now since this is my first Halloween after being gone for 5yrs, but the couple years before I moved... a lot of the younger kids are taken to church or youth organizations that run Halloween events instead of being brought around door-to-door. I'm not sure if that's because of all the urban legends about drugs and razor-blades in candy or what. We still would get a fair amount of the older kids, but around here, they are fairly free-roam.

I just got off the phone with my mom who lives outside of Biloxi, MS and in a neighborhood that has quite a few children. She bought a ton of candy and thought she would run out. Nope - she's got tons left ( ... )

The candy tampering thing is mostly an urban legend. It's happened maybe once a decade or something. The Snopes article is actually quite interesting (and long): http://snopes.com/horrors/poison/halloween.asp :)

LMAO. That sounds like something i'd totally do. But the girl swearing? Seriously? But, I totally agree with you. I can enjoy children in small well-behaved doses. I'll play with my friends 2 year old because she's good and her mother parents her. But kids of people other than my parents? I usually want to strangle the parents and give the kids a good spanking. I was spanked as a child and turned out just fine. In fact...I sometimes enjoy it. ;-)

You'd think...But...remember what kids hear on TV because parents don't monitor what kids watch or they say the words themselves. Me? I picked up swears from school, my mom was horrified when I asked her what a bitch was. She explained it wasn't a nice word and I wasn't to use it. Oh, and threatened to tan my hide if I used it ever again. Needless to say, she never heard that word from me again.

Our neighborhood is really quiet on Halloween, so I don't have a big rant. But I do hate it when they give you the stink eye for not giving them the exact candy they wanted.
