[Albert pauses in his work, turning from the trellises to look at who has come up. He nods politely in greeting, his expression not letting on that he recognizes the woman -- from quite awhile ago.]

My thanks, but it's not a lot of work at this point. Just the routine cleaning of the morning glories.

[ She nods back in reply. She doesn't see anything in his expression other than passivity. Not a single thought of her being acquainted to the man in the past crosses her mind. Instead she keeps up her cheerful mood and attempts to struck up a friendly conversation. ]

Morning glories have always mystified me. It's interesting how they only open up in the morning.

Yes, they are quite fascinating flowers. [He muses aloud, the topic one that is mild and nice in its own way.] I enjoy the daily ritual, the morning glories opening by day and the moonflowers by night.

I do. [He points out the closed buds on the trellises.] Blue morning glories by day, white moonflowers by night. Some late afternoons, a few of each can be seen open at the same time.

That must be a sight to see. It's too bad it's only the morning. I would have loved to have the chance to see both of the flowers open.

If you happen by this area of the village in the late afternoons, you may see them. They are quite visible from the road. [It's as much of an invitation to look as he can give.

Well, the morning glory is supposed to symbolize the single day each year that these two lovers are allowed to meet. According to legend, when the lovers met, they began to neglect their duties. The gods were angered by this and forced to separate the lovers and allow them to meet only once every year.

It sounds similar to another story I had heard of here in Luceti, of a princess who fell in love but was forbidden from seeing her lover because she and her lover were also neglecting their duties. Perhaps the stories have the same origin.

Maybe. There are plenty of stories out there that have been changed over the years.

Though it's a wonder how two similar stories can originate from two different worlds. Is it just coincidence?

I do wonder about that. There are worlds out there that are so similar to each other except for certain happenings, and others where they are incredibly different but share the same literature. For example, there is a romantic tragedy written in my world, by a William Shakespeare, that also exists in many different versions of the world called Earth. But there are scant other similarities.
