∞ 87: Rooftops [action]

Sep 02, 2010 13:25

[Around mid-morning, Albert can be seen picking up small things in the plaza -- nails, pens, groceries. He doesn't often do this, but it's been a week since he gave Caesar the task of repairing the stable, so he finds himself inspecting and repairing the amateurish work. That requires a few extra building supplies. Might as well take advantage of ( Read more... )

Because I want them to meet... consultmybooks September 3 2010, 01:36:15 UTC
[Giles is just out walking - because dammit, if he can walk around Luceti without fear of getting snacked on by vampires, he's going to do so]

[He spots Albert and...pauses.]

Nice night.

[Having been watching the stars idly for a moment, Albert looks down at the voice from the path.] It's certainly pleasant after last week's weather.

A newcomer?

Oh, yes. New Feather, or so everyone keeps calling me.

What happened last week?

Some of the more torrid weather of the season. A thunder storm on Friday. [Usually he didn't make much comment about the weather, but Raine's troubles during the storm made it stick out in his head.]

[And he pauses as he notes that this New Feather is one of those older than him. They didn't come around often.] Forgive me for not speaking to you more directly, but there's a ten-foot drop between us.

[Oh, Caesar knows what Albert is up to today. Of course, he wasn't sure if he was going to be expected to help or not, considering he kind of failed in the first place. So maybe a while after Albert starts trying to fix up his mistakes as usual, he wanders outside to see how everything's going.

He doesn't give him a proper greeting, though. He just kind of yawns. He's tired.]

[Who's being a jerk now? Albert hasn't yet acknowledged Caesar, though he can probably see that flare of red hair out of the corner of his eye. He really doesn't want to hammer his own thumb.]

[He's not being a jerk. Yet. Caesar's actually not sure how he feels about all of this. Maybe not too bad, considering he didn't expect to do very well in the first place (he's a strategist for a reason, dammit), but... hmm.

What to do, what to do.]

Been up there long?

Since noon. [Albert doesn't turn around to look at Caesar, continuing to look down at the nail he's hammering.] Did you just wake up?

[Regal has to stop and blink for a moment at the sight of Albert fixing the stable. The tactician never really struck him as the type to do much in the way of physical labor, and it's clear that he doesn't have the most experience in the world at it either. Maybe another pair of hands could make the job easier.]

Would you like some assistance?

[The offer doubling as a greeting doesn't surprise him; he knew all too well that he made an odd sight, fixing a roof all by his lonesome. But thankfully he felt he could finish everything within the day.]

I appreciate the offer. But this is something I have to do myself. [It's so wryly said that it doesn't take much to deduce that he doesn't take any pleasure in the task.]

That's a rather harsh punishment. Might I ask what brought it on?

[That's the only reason he can think of for refusing any help with the roof-- that or pride, which is also a possibility.]

[Regal would not be far off with either possibility; it might very well be a mixture of the two.]

I gave Caesar the task of fixing the roof, which he finished. ...Unfortunately, he didn't fix it particularly well.

[Guess who's hovering above house 42's rooftop? She'll be smiling and waving at him.]

Fancy meeting you up here.

[Albert dismisses a tiny swirl of wind he had been focusing on, tilting his head up when he notices who has come by. He lifts a gloved hand slightly in greeting.]

Good evening. You somehow didn't strike me as a night-time flier.

I was on patrol. [She'll alight on the edge of the roof.] I saw you and thought I'd say hi.

You are, of course, more than welcome. Though I have to admit I don't receive many flying visitors. [Except a certain owl.]

Has there been any notable activity in the evenings?

[It's after dinner.

Seeing that particular bedroom door open while walking down the hallway was enough to give Raine pause, of course. It was always so rarely that the bedrooms were even opened once they were completely emptied, and yet there was the ladder, set up to reach the skylight.

... It could only be Albert, of course. She doesn't disturb him, at least not immediately, though when some more time passes without him returning, she eventually moves to slowly climb the ladder herself.]

[Albert remains quiet and attentive on what he is doing on the roof. He normally doesn't pay the spirits much attention, especially one such as Kipinn. The only one he had found general use for was Faeren.

It isn't much, but even with his gloves on, he can feel the steady swirl of wind between his hands.]

[For Raine, it feels like it's been a while since she was last up here. It likely had been, since her brother was already gone for near half a year, now.

After debating it for a couple of moments, she moves to quietly join Albert.]

[Though he is concentrating, Albert can hear a creak or two as the ladder is moved. His eyelids twitch faintly, and the wind in his hands swirls erratically. But he unconsciously corrects the flow, the wind returning to its earlier steadiness. ...Interesting, he notes to himself. His mental concentration for this type of magic was ... different.]
