[written]

A word to our numerous New Feathers: Do be careful what you say when our endearing captors come asking questions. You might just have your throat torn out for talking back.

[sound/voice]

[There's the sound of fingers tapping on a tabletop.]

...So many variables changing in this past year. Hn.

You're almost sounding like yourself again. Would you like a glass of water?

In the hope that others will learn from the ... lesson. [After a few moments of debating, she finds herself a place to sit.]

Unfortunately, we're coming up on another New Feather cycle, and we'll go through this state of confusion again.

Indeed. There's really no escaping from it. Hopefully the next cycle will be more ... toned down, from what it has been like recently.

It's unlikely, but we'll deal with it. At least there are established people here to help out. I hate to admit it, but Koizumi has left a notable footprint with his guide.

I suppose that has been a reliable constant, save for those who are too proud to read a few pages.

And then there are the variables.

Or no one bothers to mention the guide to them.

[He raises a brow at her.]

With so many new feathers, few do slip through the cracks. Who came up with that term, anyway?

[She arches a brow in return. What. What's with that look.]

I don't recall. It's been in place for a long time now.

[The brow has not yet lowered.] Yes?

Itsuki himself, perhaps. He did make the original version of the guide... hn.

You brought them up before. [A slight shrug.] Since we were speaking of the consistency of the guide, I thought to contrast it with the inconsistencies of the changing variables.

I don't think so; I believe the term was fairly widely used by the time I heard Koizumi using it. It was probably one of Caesar's other acquaintances -- one of those with a sense of humor.

And what variables were you referring to?

I suppose you would know better than I.

Kidnappings, the sudden increase in new feather cycles. Information that may or may not lead somewhere. I really do need to check on my markers, for the barrier, as well.

Your markers haven't been checked in a very long time.

It's strange. For a time it seemed as if they were being checked more often than not... and now it's been months. This needs to be rectified.

It certainly doesn't help matters that the more frequently checked markers, in the mountains, are the ones that have changed the most.

... Indeed.

What would you like to do about it?
