Hi, I'm Kay, and I just adopted a chihuahua. Her name is Mina (my sister said she looked like a bat, which brought us to Dracula, and since we already have a Lucy, we had to have a Mina). She is so darn adorable. My boss has a chihuahua and I frankly cannot stand it. She's yappy and mean and she bites, so I never felt the desire to ever get one (although when I was little, I must confess to wanting one and naming it Nacho). But the other day I drove past Wal Mart and there was a sign -- Chihuahua Puppies! I had to stop, and once I saw them, I couldn't walk away. Mina is just what I've been looking for -- she's so well behaved, and she has a lot of personality. She's adorable.

I've had dogs all my life, but never a Chihuahua. I feel pretty ignorant, although I've been getting some help from people on LJ and at the pet store. I'm really nervous about everything I'm doing, so I'll probably have a lot of questions sooner or later. Feel free to call me on my mistakes!

Today I started Mina on a natural diet (apparently wheat and corn are bad) which I've completely forgotten the name of, as the bag is across the kitchen. I mixed in the wet food I had been feeding her earlier, but she ate around the dry natural food and ate the canned stuff instead. Hopefully it'll grow on her and be easier on her stomach (she was throwing up green vomit earlier, which promted the visit to the pet store and the natural food).

I do have a question. Mina is eight weeks old with no shots. I want to get her into the vet asap, but unfortunetly I can't afford it right now. As soon as I get my taxes back, within the month, I'll be able to take her and get her everything she needs. Is is nessasary for her to get her shots and vaccines right away, or will she be okay waiting a month? I'm planning on making a trip to the vet Thursday morning just to get their opinion and brief them on everything, but I'd like some more opinions anyways.

I took about 40 pictures (about five turned out decent!) of Mina earlier today, but I can't find the cord to upload them, so those will be coming later.
