Opinions and a Little Story

Ok. So as I've mentioned a thousand times in here, I'm moving in January. The house I'll be living in has 4 roomates other than myself. I only met them all for a few minutes. I was thinking that I should maybe write a little info/instruction sheet about him for them. Things like what he can and can't eat, etc etc. What do you think ( Read more... )

I was thinking of posting it on my bedroom door, since that is where he'll be spending most of his time. Something along the lines of:

Hi, my name is Mason! I'm a year and a half old Long Coat Chihuahua. I'm 5lbs, which is a good weight for me. I eat Solid Gold Barking At The Moon kibble, and Innova EVO kibble. If my mommy is not home please feel free to take me out to play, but make sure you bring me to pee first or I might pee on the floor!

Things like that.

Yeah, I think I'll try to give them general guidelines at first, and try to see how it goes from there.

I wouldn't give them too many details at first. I think that what you said in response to battlemaidenfey as an example is a really great start, though. I just think that if you type up pages of instructions and tape them all over the house and lecture each person for three hours individualy they may think you're a little crazy... even though you're not! I mean, I don't know these people; they may absolutely love dogs like you or me, but if they don't so much, then they might just turn around and go, "wow... i didn't get any of that." Maybe tape feeding instructions boldly to wherever you keep Mason's food as well. Will Mason be the only pup living in the home?

And as for the papillon thing, that's crazy... it really is a small world! Hah, and I'm asked SO much if Diego's a papillon, too.

Oh yeah, I'm deffinitely not gong to go into it for hours and hours and hours. I'll give what I think are the important bits of info in the beginning and then let them know that if they have any questions they can ask.

I think it's a great idea to give them some info. People who haven't been around dogs can be great w. dogs, but there are always well-intentioned mistakes. I'm thinking specifically of feeding him human food that can hurt him... because a lot of people can't resist giving a begging dog a little bit of what they're having.

True. I don't mind a bit of human food as long as it's not going to hurt him (like onions or grapes).

Right, but you don't want them to be all, "Hey, cute little doggie! You want some of my candy bar?"

(Like my uncle once did...yikes!)
