The Man sez: One of the featured communities this week on the LJ homepage is about beekeeping, which reminded me of last summer at the state fair (before I nearly fucking died) when we were sampling different varieties of local honey from this beekeeping family and I of course asked the dude if he'd ever used his bee colony to grow a 'bee beard'.

This program is an absolute light-years kind of idea but it's still not enough. They need so much help and attention and I don't even know what else sometimes. Some of them get it and are willing to do the work. Others don't see how these (hopefully) thirteen years of education will determine the rest of their lives. Most of them are classic examples of learned helplessness. They just sit there and say "I don't know what to do" until I come over and do it for them. I'm all for lattice learning and using teachable examples, but that's not enough for the majority. They just don't fucking get it sometimes. I can say "Rewrite these sentences with the first letter capitalized" and I guarantee they will all hand in work with at least one (if not all) of the sentences improperly capitalized. One girl actually rewrote different sentences with none of the words capitalized. I just want to fucking scream in frustration sometimes.
