Why would anyone want to cut off their toes to fit in a pair of shoes so they could go riding off with a prince? I guess if he was good-looking or nice, I might understand, but it seems a bit rash.

It serves them right. I'm really glad Cinderella got to go with the prince in the end.

Because afterward they would get married to the prince, which brings power and influence. They probably thought losing their toes was worth it.

That's not a good reason to marry someone. Power and influence... it comes and goes.

But in those days, the royal family was nearly guaranteed to wield enormous amounts of power for a long time.

How can it be guaranteed? Someone could come and overthrow them!

I believe the point was that they were greedy and prideful enough to physically injure themselves in the vain hopes that the prince would not notice and they would no longer need to do physical labor for the rest of their lives--though it did not seem that they were doing much of it to begin with.

... Not that the prince noticed. They can be so impractical, sometimes, unfortunately.

Some girls are just impractical, too.

I noticed! He needed the pigeons to tell him that they were bleeding!

Yes, that is true... Everyone falls victim to impracticality at one time or another.

Are you enjoying the books, Yoko-san?

Oh, yes! I really am. Thank you so much for letting me borrow them. Even if they're a little strange at times.

Though I'm not even halfway finished.

My, that's quite. . .dramatic.

I'd imagine that the blood loss would kill her.

No. Not from having her toe cut off.

She only got to go with the prince because she was patient and kind.

You have to be if you want the prince!

It's not always like that..not where I live at least. The Grimm Fairy Tales were a bit drastic.

They're a little morbid to be kid stories!

I always liked the Disney's versions better.

Issei mentioned the Disney version. I'd like to read it!
