All teams but the minnows have now played and it's quote hard to see a Northern hemisphere team making the semis. NZ and Australia efficiently disposed of weak opposition. South Africa beat the dangerous Samoans quite comfortably. As for the 6N countries, their performances ranged from unimpressive to woeful. France lost to Argentina, Scotland ( Read more... )

I'd say it's too early to say anything. I guess the usual suspects will make the quarter finals (including France), and then we'll see what they're really worth.

I agree about the Southern Hemisphere dominance, albeit I can't see Argentina making the semi-finals. I suspect they'll either get pipped by unpleasant maths in the Ireland/France/Argentina tussle, or finish second and get knocked out by New Zealand in the quarters. If they did manage to win the group their match against Scotland would be interesting.

It wouldn't surprise me if Argentina beat Ireland to head the group. That said, it's almost unimaginable at this point that anyone other than one of the SANZAR countries will lift the trophy.

Really? I'd be worried if I were a Wales or Scotland supporter. Scotland had more trouble than they should have with Portugal and Wales conceded three tries to Canada.
