Alms for Oblivion

The first volume (of the three volume printing) of Simon Raven's Alms for Oblivion series has been unavailable in Canada for the several years I've been trying to get hold of a copy. I read The Rich Pay Late a while ago and wanted more. A couple of weeks ago I gave in and ordered a copy from England which turned out rather well as even with the ( Read more... )

Yay Raven! In fact I thought the last volume or so of A Dance to the Music of Time was getting into Raven-type territory with Scorp Murtlock and so on (but that may be more on the basis of the non-series though related Roses of Picardie and September Castle).

I think there's some crossover in terms of territory but the treatment seems quite different. Also I don't think Powell was very interested in the practice of politics. He seems to have been a rather romantic type of Tory little concerned (or perhaps willfully ignorant) of the "hows" of the political world.
