I lived in East Lakeview for a year (Sheridan/Broadway) and the biggest complaint I have is parking. If you have a car, you MUST have a parking spot otherwise you will tear your hair out every day. This goes ten-fold during Cubs' season...and all the parking generally goes up during Cubs' season. The building I lived in charged an extra $20 to tenants who had a parking spot, even if they'd had it all winter long...

There are a lot of nice restaurants, shops and bars within walking distance though, that's something I definitely miss.

My apartment at Sheridan and Clarendon (not sure if that's technically uptown or lakeview) was only $640/month for a studio.

it's hell on earth during cubs season. unless, of course, you like bumper to bumper traffic, no parking, and drunken fratboys and trixies clogging up the sidewalks.

But that's mostly when very close to Wrigley Field.

true, but it still affects belmont & clark and boystown.

oh, and practically the entire redline (but especially between the loop and addison). i HATE trying to get home after work on the redline when there's a cubs game.

The western part of Lakeview is quite nice. And quiet.

What I'm saying below applies to the southeastern part that I know best.

Well, the demographic. If you are similar, you'll like it, if not, you won't, because that is indeed who lives there. I'd really suggest going out to eat and wandering around a little to get a feel of it.

Parking--that sounds very accurate. I live near the lake and you can't find a place here, but we don't keep a car because we don't need one. We rent out our parking space and it covers our condo fees. You can always get a cab on any big street, it's very safe for walking, there are lots of stores, and various car rental options are also fairly close in most parts of the area.

But it's very convenient to everything, if somewhat overpriced.
