The "Morning After" Pill - according to Metro

May 17, 2008 01:41

This morning I read an article in the Metro about how the "morning after" pill is now available over-the-counter without any restrictions, and one woman was like, "there's no doubt this pill has prevented many unwanted births from happening ( Read more... )

I'm with you so much on this one. At the very least, if a couple choses to have sex, they should take the necessary precautions and not think like they have the morning after pill (or even worse, abortion) to "fall back on".

yeah personally I think a condom + a woman physically inserting spermicide would probably guarantee a 99% protection rate.. which is personally what I would choose to do when I'm married and if I want to try to avoid getting pregnant as much as possible.

I think it's a good and bad thing. A friend of mine got raped a while back and couldn't get a doctor's appt for three days, so it was a good thing that they had just changed the morning after pill to over the counter or else she may have had a real problem.

But if you're an idiot who can't keep it in your pants... beware of the consiquences.

yeah I totally support rape victims in that, and it's good they have the freedom and discretion to be able to get it.

But ya.. otherwise.. ^^;;

There will always be excuses, especially to have unprotected sex. "It feels better," or "I use the calender method and I'm always regular." Except someone who used the latter still got pregnant and had to get an abortion.

As someone who's had to use the morning after pill because of a bad relationship (that I recently ended YAYY), I would say that the ONLY REALLY good thing about it being over-the-counter is to minimize the stigma that comes from the point of publicly ASKING for the pill. Yes I do agree that the best birth control method is abstinence, and I hope people don't stop respecting that. However, I remember the time I had to get the pill cuz the guy I was with was an IDIOT, I was really scared, did not want to confront the pharmacist... and well I had to ask for it kind of vocally over the barrier of the pharmacy area in the campus drugstore. And like two people turned and looked at me.. and I felt the look in their eyes "oh shame..." or "oh.. what a slut..". And I know I could have avoided it by abstinence, but I chose not to. .. Even so, not having to publicly ask for something like that pill is a really good thing so I'll have to say I support that.

Yeah I mean I think it's good that people can get it like without having to be so.. vocal about it I guess? Cuz I know before the pharmacist would have to like ask you all these personal questions and well.. pharmacies aren't really "private" so that I'm good with...

lol and yes, I also support its use when people find their partners are dickwads (ahem lol) cuz hey, if one side isn't responsible then... ya. totally stupid of him.

Ya I was afraid you'd get like offended lol cuz I'll admit my arguments are not entirely well-explained above.. though I attribute it in part to my PMS... yar it's that time of month for me XD coming soon.. yesterday I was like sooo pissy.. easily irritable. Still am I think. XD

Anyhoo ya the pill's a complex thing and I didn't list all my thoughts in their entirety... ya *hug*

And another advantage of something going over-the-counter in most cases is decreased price.. which is also a plus!
