Oh boy. Uncle Fred can be...he just seems like he's a little...off, you know? I talked to Mom on the phone the other day, and she told me a couple stories, but I didn't hear about any of the political fun. (She was particularly fond of the way he kept saying "Upper P" and "Lower P." She said it was all she could do not to laugh in his face.)

It just goes to show, you can't trust a person who doesn't like cats.

He reads the Washington Times. Regularly. That's pretty much all I need to know in order to point and laugh at his politics. And I know it's hard, at our place, to get away from politics since the three of us who live here are steeped in it, but we are also versed in talking about travel, violent (and some nonviolent) sports, celebrity gossip, recent movies, the latest Harry Potter book, and the weather. Among many, many other things. But Uncle Fred just seemed eager to talk about politics.

He's the eccentric of the family, but, alas, not the kind of eccentric who is wacky fun.

CAN he talk about anything other than politics and birds? I can't think that I've ever heard it. (Not that I've done all that much chatting with Uncle Fred...)

not the kind of eccentric who is wacky fun.

And therein lies the problem, I think.
