It's that time again, time for puckling and I to talk for a half hour about various and sundry hockey things and pretend you want to listen to it while driving to wherever for Thanksgiving. Also, we recorded this, like, a week ago, but technical issues and me being under the weather led to this taking longer than usual to be edited and put up.

i'm pretty selective in my hockey players and i don't stray so you mentioned some hockey players and i'm like WHO? (landeskog??? bollig - who i only know because i follow FUCKYEAHICEHOGS or something idek remember the url etc etc.although carey price is BEAUTIFUL and he adores horses like me so added bonus?) but ugh idek. THIS WAS A GOOD THING TO LISTEN TO. some of it i agree with, some of it i don't (whaaaaaaaaaaaaat andy sandberg doesn't look like sidney crosby ;_; MY EYES) BUT YOU TWO ARE FLAWLESS.

So, I was listening to this and was kind of surprised when you guys spent so many minutes wringing your hands over the appropriation of the Blackhawks logo and how that means you can't own any of their merchandise and then immediately dismissed actual Latino people having a problem with the Los IceHogs jerseys?!?!

ACTUALLY, seeing as Latino populations are growing everywhere, it is in hockey's best interests that that "demographic" overlaps with hockey. I don't know where you go to games, but at the United Center, Staples Center and Honda Center, it's fairly normal to see Latinos in the crowd, since they're kind of a large part of the local population. Youth hockey coaches on twitter (like Chemmy from Pension Plan Puppets) also say that the majority of their players are Latino or Asian

I should have been clearer - I was surprised more that they knew about it, since it isn't as though NBC Latino airs AHL games, as far as I'm aware. I certainly understand why Latinos/Latinas/human beings would be upset by it in general, but I was surprised that it was something they objected to as a collective network.

As for why we spent more time on the Blackhawks logo v. Los Icehogs, it was mostly because I was never considering buying or wearing Icehogs merchandise. If I was, I'd certainly have the same objections to any Los Icehogs gear that I have to Blackhawks gear, but since my endorsement either way was not in question and we try to keep these at around thirty minutes or under, it was a moot point.

Okay, cool, cause from the "not their demographic" part and the "it's hard to get angry over tiny sombreros" bit, it sounded super dismissive in the podcast. I'm glad that's not how you intended it at all.

As a Latino themed event, NBCLatino likely got a press release, since that's the sort of thing they cover. I'd guess it was an event that might have even been targeted toward the Latino community, as most "Lost [Sports Team]" nights are (the Chicago Bull and LA Lakers have these, to thank Latino fans/encourage more to come out and see them).

Glad to have got to the bottom of this.

Oh he totally does. I mean, all hockey players are douchecanoes to some extent, and I guess "hypercompetitive asshole" is more accurate, but in his pursuit of hypercompetition he can be pretty douchey (mowing down small children playing hockey, for example).
