It was a bright summer day. Soft white clouds covered the sky in sporadic bursts. A gentle breeze flowed thorough the trees breaking up the leaves and the heat creating pleasant warmth. Every child including the lazy Nara boy was outside enjoying the good weather.

A boisterous laugh burbled through the trees filling the Konoha forest with child-like innocence. Naruto threw another rock into the stream, and the laugh sounded again. “Hey, hey, Iruka-Sensei, look. I made it skip three times that time.”

Iruka grinned tossing a pebble and watching it bounce six or seven times before sinking in.

Naruto frowned puffing out his cheeks. “That’s not fair, Iruka-Sensei. How’d you do that?”

“I’ll do it again, slower this time.” Iruka said choosing another rock from the ground. Iruka held the rock in the palm of his hand as he let chakra creep from his fingers to the stone making it glow a gentle blue color. Then he brought his arm back and threw the stone across the water.

Naruto stared wide-eyed as the rock bounced to the opposite shore. “Wow, Iruka-Sensei. That’s awesome.” Bursting with excitement, the blond boy picked up a stone at random and stood stoically still. Chakra gathered and swirled around him in erratic arcs as Naruto concentrated.

“Ah, Naruto… You don’t need quite that much charka…” Iruka said, nervously backing away.

“GO!” Naruto shouted, hurling the glowing stone at the water. In a great splash, the rock tore into the stream, splashing water up and out in a 20-foot diameter. Naruto blinked several times, looked down at his stream soaked clothes, and burst out laughing.

“Naruto.” Iruka growled, picking up a large stone and hopping across to the other bank. This was one of his nicer vests. Iruka didn’t wear this one outside the village, and he tried to avoid wearing it to shuriken practices. Iruka was more than annoyed that it had been covered in muddy stream water.

He charged the rock with a bit of chakra and chucked it at a particularly muddy patch of the water in line with where Naruto was standing. The rock skipped once splashing mud all over Naruto and sinking into the murk at the end of its second arch.

Naruto looked astonished down at his clothes then up at Iruka then back down at his clothes. “Iruka-Sensei.” He said eventually coming to his senses. With a mischievous grin, He jumped into the water and exacted his revenge in a much more crude fashion.

Calling up a clone, Naruto and his counterpart channeled their chakra together forming a swirling sphere. When it was ready, Naruto thrust his hand into the water sending moisture flying in great quantities in Iruka’s direction. “Rasengan.”

Iruka wailed holding his hands up trying to block the water without much success. As the jutsu faded, Iruka glared rolling up both his sleeves and jumping into the water as well. They spent the next several hours splashing each other until both were exhausted and covered in mud.

The day continued to be warm and cheerful well after dark. Every one stared at the pair of muddy friends sitting side by side at Ichiraku ramen. Neither of those friends really cared about much else than the fun they had that day in the sun.
