“Thank you.”
“What was that?” Kakashi set his book down in his lap turning to look at his lover standing in the doorway.
“Thank you.” Iruka repeated moving to hug Kakashi from behind over the back of the couch.
“You’re welcome?” Unsure how else to respond Kakashi let go of his book to hold the arms around his chest gently.
“I love you.” Iruka stated simply closing his eyes and resting his head against Kakashi’s shoulder.
“What brought this on?” Kakashi asked softly. Not that he was complaining, but Iruka rarely came up to him at random and started spouting devotions of love.
“One of the students in my class mentioned a tradition in Iwagakure. Every year they have a holiday on the fourth Thursday in November where they pray for all the things for which they are thankful. I just wanted you to know that you’re the thing in my life I’m most thankful for.” Iruka hugged Kakashi tighter laying his head more firmly on the other man’s shoulder.
Kakashi was at a loss for words. He opened his mouth several times beneath the mask but couldn’t think of anything other than, “I love you,” He breathed pulling Iruka carefully over the back of the couch into his lap. The chuunin yelped as he was flipped upside-down but fell silent as Kakashi wrapped both arms around his waist and buried his head in Iruka’s chest. “I love you.” He repeated feeling tears well up in Obito’s eye and not even caring.
Iruka wrapped his arms back around Kakashi and placed a gentle kiss on the man’s forehead ignoring the separating hitai-ate. It wasn’t hindering the connection between their souls anyway.
Kakashi sniffed rubbing his face into Iruka’s neck and staying there too blissfully happy to do anything else. “I love you.” He mumbled.
“I love you too.” Iruka hugged Kakashi close savoring the unbreakable connection between them. He had no doubt there would never be anything to come between them. “And I will always love you.”
They settled together on the couch snuggling and kissing for many hours and declarations into the night. It wasn’t as though they needed anything more, just the feeling of lying in each other’s arms was enough to fuel a warm glow in each other’s hearts to keep them satisfied.
