The last time I tried to throw a tax refund check made out to both of us through the ATM, they sent it back to me and told me I had to speak to a teller. :-/
Joint accounts sound worse than they actually are! Sharing an account has saved me loads and loads of stress and complication - it's seriously one of the best steps I've ever taken. I know, I know, lots of people have horror stories regarding joint accounts, but here's the trick - keep your separate accounts. Michael and I even have a joint credit card that we use for things like groceries, bills, etc.( We earn some pretty sweet reward points!) Before the first of the month, we calculate how much we each need to put into the account to pay off the credit card, plus rent, transfer that amount over, and voila! So from my experience, It's pretty painless as long as you both have your individual accounts.
I'm so weary of credit cards! I know it's stupid, and I could probably really use one (the only credit in my name is sitting out in a parking lot right now) but I've always had the "If I don't have the money for it RIGHT NOW, then I don't need it" attitude. I know using them and paying them off immediately is pretty great for your credit, though. What kind of rewards do you get?
We contemplated getting a joint account for bills, but we both have different banks, so setting up a timed transfer for an amount that varies monthly didn't really work out well. We may be changing banks in the very near future, so maybe it'll work out better then?
I know what you mean - most of my friends are heavily into credit card debt. You just have to limit yourself and be super responsible with it. I NEVER let my credit card get above, say, $700 (and it only ever gets that high if a special occasion arises - vacation, X-mas, etc.) I usually average a $300 monthly balance, so...not too bad! If you still keep yourself in the "If I don't have money for it right now..." mindset, you'll be golden. I only let myself spend as much as I KNOW I'll be able to pay off at the end of the month. Also - doing it this way takes takes away my worries of overdraft fees, waiting for checks to be deposited, etc
( ... )
A wine tasting sounds like it would be a lovely idea! :) That sucks that they wouldn't let you deposit the check. I probably would've punched the person behind me in the face. (Only because obviously you can't punch the tellers with the glass in front of them.) But not actually. That is frustrating. :/ I don't think I'd want to open a joint account either. (I think my only reason would be if Dave was pissing me off and not paying bills in a timely manner, I'd make him put money in there and I'd pay them. Haha.) But other than that, I don't see why people would want a joint account. My money is my money and I should be able to spend it as I wish. Not that there is anything to hide but it's the principle of the matter. So I know how you feel. That's a sweet mug! How'd the rolls come out? Sounds delish. Is the recipe from a book?
Yes! I hope everything works out. It sounds like a great low-cost ladies' night out, provided we can sucker someone into being our DD.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. My money is mine, and as long as our bills are paid on time (or early, in my case, per my 101 in 1001 goal) I don't really see the need to bring another account into the mix.
The rolls were awesome! Not too gooey, not too bread-y. Yeah, the recipe is from a book (that I'm too cheap to buy, even though the dough/bread has CHANGED MY LIFE). You make a huge batch of super moist "master" dough, let it rise for a few hours, then stick it in the fridge and pull pieces off of it as you need them to make different carb-y delights.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees that way. When it comes up in convo, I often get blank stares. I earned it so it's mine!! Haha. Nice on the paying bills early. Dave does not have the best track record with paying bills on time (but usually no more than a couple weeks late.) I just don't know how he can not remember them. I've got all mine written down/set to pay early. I'd like to take over bill paying but our living expenses are definitely not in my realm of being able to pay on my own. :/
I may have to stalk the library and see how to make this dough. I'm no betty baker though. How long does the dough last in the fridge? How long does master dough go for, as in how many times can you pull pieces from it? This is making me totally hungry!
I'm a horrible baker myself! The dough can last for about two weeks in the fridge, and it says it makes four "boules" (aka little loaves) of bread. One boule is more than enough for two people to share for a meal.
If you'd like to save yourself a trip to the library, here's a video with a walkthrough of how to prepare the master dough and make a basic boule. (I don't use a pizza peel. Instead I use a cookie sheet that doesn't have edges. As long as you use enough cornmeal, it doesn't really matter what you use. I used a cutting board for a while. The baking stone and the broiler pan are essential for a good crust though) If you're interested, here's a recipe, although the actual procedure starts on the previous page. There are also a couple other recipes in that article that use the master dough, including an awesome pizza recipe and the pecan roll recipe.
I am planning on posting more! I just need to crack down and do it. There are kind of a lot of huge (HUGE!) panoramas, so I'm not sure how I'm going to go about those yet.

You could probably throw the check through the ATM machine and no one would notice.
