It's been brought to my attention--and I've noticed this before, but it's finally been brought up by authors--that there is a definite lack of male urban fantasy protagonists. I mean as the main, story-telling or story-centric character. There is a disproportionate (is that a word?) number of female leads.

I dunno, I feel more in tune with male protagonists. Somehow. And I've flipped through some of the ones Dad has, and they look like excuses to write smut books. So that probably paints my opinion on them a little unfairly.

See, I can't stand romance in the books I read. I've put down books before because the plot started focusing too much on relationships. I don't know why--maybe I'm just bitter and lonely. That was one thing that drew me to the Cal Leandros series (ignoring the gay couple that develops later... the characters involved need it, dammit). Of the ones I've read, I think Levitt's series is the closest to graphic, but even then, it's like... description of how he feels during sex ( ... )
