I don't really know that much about the knitting process, but I have to agree with you about the impracticality of the full leotard thing. The sweater would probably be a little more practical (when would it ever be remotely comfortable to wear the leotard? Long sleeves in the summer, no leg coverings in the winter...) Are you actually going to make this sweater? I do have to agree that the outfit would be something cool to have at conventions. As for the skin showing through holes, I suspect that most attention will be focused on the skin visible in the "boob window" hole, without which it really wouldn't be a PG costume (even if it is completely pointless).
I know that no one is going to be looking at the teeny tiny holes between stitches when there are much bigger holes available... Which is why I'll be able to do this in, say, a five, and not a three. Still, I'm paranoid. What can I say? We all have our little quirks.
I was actually thinking of the leotard in terms of cosplay.
I'm confused... how are you putting in her sleeves? Wouldn't you need to be knitting two separate tubes for that? *does not understand knitting*
Also, for placing the openings that allow you to actually put the thing on... why not do what the dancerwear designers do to get that seamless look and try something like this:
Also, I agree that the leotard thing would be less comfy than the sweater, though I can understand the coolness factor of completing the whole thing as originally designed (mostly). After all, the sweater as an actual sweater is really just a white top with a boob window. Without the cape or blue gloves, it would be perfectly normal-looking with a pair of jeans. Of course, with the jeans over the leotard, that'd be perfectly normal-looking too.
If you're all that concerned about skin showing through, you could just get a very low-cut square-necked stretch camisole to wear under it. With the long sleeves, you'd probably be best off wearing this only at autumn or winter events anyways.
You're right about the camisole; you'd want it anyway, since the boob window pretty much demands cleavage, and if you're wide-set like me the best way to get that is a bra + cami combo score.
Well, the opening at the bottom does look like a good idea... I guess if you were doing the leotard, that's how you'd do it. I think you'd still want to do the zipper up the front for the sweater, though.
As the the zipper/snaps/buttons on top, take a look at what Turner's done again; that's pretty much the classic design for Peej, and it's got the zipper right down to the boob window.
Re: Knitting two tubes for the sleeves:
The trouble with this is that if you did it like that, you'd have to then *attach* those sleeves, and that, alas, leads to seams. That's why I'm so annoyed in that A-F section; because that's the best idea I've got for the sleeves, and I already know it's not very good.
I should probably spend some time browsing Knitty for better ideas...
Other than that, how the heck are ya? Sorry I never called you back after I left school; life was molto caotico for the week before I left for Milano. Which, by the way, is awesome.
Alas, no, I am not back. I am writing from Milan. I will give you my number, but be aware that it is at home and not functioning. six.zero.nine.six.one.zero.two.three.three.five. You could send me mail over here! Check the address on my most recent LJ post.
As to passing through, I will be doing so sometime around July 23 or 24th, I think. Would it be possible for my brother and I to stay over with you? Just cause then we wouldn't have to get a hotel. Let me know.
You can still email me at the stolaf address (camp) if you want to. I check that more often than LJ.

Now, give me your phone number again, because I am afraid I have misplaced it.
Also, I figured, re: Milano. That is, the chaos. Although also the awesome...
Are you coming through here any time soon?
