So, I went back in my email and found a notification of a comment. 'Twas a comment on the five things meme, but that comment doesn't display when you look at the post. Or at least, I'm pretty sure it doesn't. I don't remember it being there, and I'd think I would.

Anyway, here's ( Five things that can't be made into an opera. )

I could write an opera about the decomposition of bodies. It would be opera buffa, but opera nonetheless.

There's a ridiculously high number of responses I will never make to this.

I think you could make an opera out of the IRS. I'm not sure if it would be one of those Mozart-y ones with silly people in silly masques and suchlike, or something involving the slow descent into madness like Evartung (which I grossly misspelled, there), but I bet there could be an opera.

I disagree. I believe an opera out of the IRS would not be able to fit within accepted opera tropes.

Although you could make an argument for that slow descent into madness, I think people would find the situation too comic to take seriously.

Also, Evartung (I have no clue how it's spelled, either) is an amazing opera, and I wish I could see it again.

Well, yes. It would be comic. Death and taxes and all, being what they are - it's a laugh or cry. All opera is comic when you get down to it. Like pratchett paraphrased here - when "this damned door sticks" or other inanities come to classical style, it's all a bit ridiculous.

But... it's heavy. It's like trying to cook tofu with a cream sauce. Apart from the inanity of cooking the staple of vegan cuising in cream, the stuff is too damn heavy for the tofu to stand up to it.

I guess, technically, you *could* make an opera out of it--but I don't think there's any amount of talent on the creator's part which could make it a *good* opera. That's all.
