I'm sorry Maggie. It gets easier, but it's always sad.

I sent my Mom the Persian violets too. Her comment: "You know, they only bloom once." I didn't know that, but they were pretty while they lasted.

I only read this today, 2 days after getting that fantastic box of Marie Belle chocolates, and what a delicious surprise they were! Even more of a surprise is how you see me as the new Matriarch of our family...surely that should be YOU! Somehow "Matriarch" makes me think of the Queen Mother...
Mom loved those Persian Violets you sent her, and she talked about that fruit bouquet FOREVER, like she was prone to do...It is a bittersweet Mother's Day this year...I always think of my Mom and wish we could have had more of a "normal" relationship, whatever that is. Our shared "Mom" was a part of my life for 42 years, as a daughter in law TWICE for 36 of those years...through ups and downs, divorce, childbirth...no matter how annoying she could be with her quintessential passive aggressive nature, she was always there when my own Mom wasn't, helping out in her roll up the sleeves kind of way. I'm tearing up as I write this...I do miss her terribly. Thank you for the unexpected gift, of chocolate, and more. Love, Maureen
