The lilacs are blooming everywhere. Stepping out my back door is like stepping into a fragrant garden. My dad used to cut lilacs from our bush and bring them to his mother on Mothers Day. I sent my Mom the Persian violets too. Her comment: "You know, they only bloom once." I didn't know that, but they were pretty while they lasted.

Mom loved those Persian Violets you sent her, and she talked about that fruit bouquet FOREVER, like she was prone to do...It is a bittersweet Mother's Day this year...I always think of my Mom and wish we could have had more of a "normal" relationship, whatever that is. Our shared "Mom" was a part of my life for 42 years, as a daughter in law TWICE for 36 of those years...through ups and downs, divorce, childbirth...no matter how annoying she could be with her quintessential passive aggressive nature, she was always there when my own Mom wasn't, helping out in her roll up the sleeves kind of way. I'm tearing up as I write this...I do miss her terribly. Thank you for the unexpected gift, of chocolate, and more. Love, Maureen
