Hi Cheyenne, if you have any spare time, do you think you might be able to help me translate some sentences into German for my presentation? My german isn't that great and I have a limited vocabulary, so I'm finding it hard to translate these sentences, and I don't want to look stupid in front of my class/teacher. Thanks if you can!
Great, thanks! I'm doing a quick presentation on Advent in Austria. I think I pretty much have the first half translated, but I just needed help with the second half. Heres what I'm trying to say: (if any of this is incorrect, please let me know, since its just what I've been able to read online. Thanks! I really appreciate it) -Children put their shoes in the windows, hoping St. Nikolaus will leave gifts. Common gifts are marzipan, apples, peanuts, mandarins, cookies, and chocolate -Christmas Eve is more important than Christmas Day. -Trees have real wax candles on them -at night, before mass, families visit the cemetary to visit deceased relatives. -go to mass. On normal Sundays, about 20% of Austrians attend mass. On Christmas Eve, about 80% attend. -the tree is thought to decorated by the Christkind, who also leaves the presents -opening presents is done before dinner on Christmas Eve.
- Kinder holen ihre Schuhe raus und hoffen das der Nikolaus seine Geschenke hinterlässt. Geschenke wie Marzipan, Äpfel, Erdnüsse, Mandarinen, Plätzchen und Schokolade. - Der Weihnachtsabend (auch Heilig Abend) ist wichtiger als der 1.Weihnachtstag - Bäume werden mit echten Kerzen beschmückt (but, today it is very rare) - at night, before mass, families visit the cemetary to visit deceased relatives. (that does not happen) - Gehen zur Messe. An einem Sonntag gehen ungefähr 20% von den Österreichern zur Messe. Am Weihnachtsabend (Heilig Abend) ungefähr 80% zur Messe. - Der Baum wird geschmückt, damit das Christkind die Geschenke bringt (Me was not completely clearly what you meant) - Am Weihnachtsabend (Heilig Abend) werden die Geschenke vor dem Abendessen geöffnet.
I reformulated it a little, so that it sounds as German =) You have still a question ?
