CSU: This Time Around - Chapter 4
The partial thumbprint ChangMin had earlier matched Johnny Mark, 32, an attractive art gallery owner of 'Marlica Fine Art' and former boyfriend of the victim, is now sitting in the interrogation room of the Boston PD. Dressed in white atop with a black long-sleeved rolled cuffs heavy cable knit cardigan; his left hand trembling with the small cigar in between his fingers, smokes clouding around him, fidgeting in his seat.
YooChun, JunSu and ChangMin standing with a cup of coffee each as their pre-lunch, looking before the one-way mirror, watching from the observation room as the suspect seated side facing them. YunHo and HeeChul are also in the room, walking around the artist, asking all sorts of questions regarding to the victim.
From the initial interview, they gathered that Johnny dated numerous girls, never really getting serious with any of them until he met Alice Yee, he was infatuated. Here was a woman who shared his passion in art.
They dated for three years before they broke up when she refused to marry him. He was shocked and enraged and ran off to New Orleans for a long weekend to get over being rebuffed. He returned to Boston a few weeks later to open up his own gallery and hired Alice to be his model for his art class, everything went well and they became friends. That is, until....
"Where were you last night?" HeeChul begins the real deal.
"I was here" Mark replied after a puff.
"Can you be more specific?" YunHo fixed his gaze at him.
"I went to a party" Mark looks up at YunHo then looks down again.
"What party?"
"Party of a friend who is getting married tonight"
"The party Alice Yee attended?"
"Yes. Her friends are my friends too" Mark nodded, clearly uncomfortable with the questions.
"Did you talk to her last night?" HeeChul asked, trying to focus Mark's gaze to him.
"No" Mark shook his head.
"So you had no feelings for Alice, nothing left over, one way or another?" HeeChul leaned nearer to the table.
"If a woman rejects you for no good reason, and you're what they call a catch otherwise, don't you think that's a pretty good signal she thinks she's better than you?"
"Is that what you thought?" YunHo pushes the ashtray, sliding it across the table, from where he sat to Mark.
"No way Alice Yee is better than Johnny Mark" Mark switches his cigar to his right before catching the object with his left.
"Can you take us through the timeline of the activities that night?" HeeChul leaned back against the backrest, arms folding.
"We were at the party. It started about dinnertime. I was there all night" Mark answered after a brief pause.
"All night? What time did that party end?"
"I think it ended around 3:00 or so"
"What did you do afterwards?" YunHo went back being the tough one.
"Headed home, had a shower and went straight to bed"
"What time did you get home?"
"Around 4"
"We'll be doing a very thorough investigation. Will there be any reason your name will come up again, or a reason we might find something at the scene that links to you?"
"What kind of stuff at the scene are you talking about?" Mark asked, totally freaked out.
"Fingerprints, semen, blood, that kind of thing. Or fibers from clothing. Maybe skin under her nails" YunHo mentioned casually.
"Won't be mine" Mark looks at his watch, realised how long he is here. "Are we done?"
"You are" YunHo pointed to him then to themselves when the suspect stood up. "We're not"
"We found your fingerprint on her neck" YunHo shows him the photograph taken from the victim's neck and the result with his name on it.
"And your landlord claimed she bumped into you at 5. Asking for a due rent" HeeChul shows him the photo of him getting inside his apartment taken from the CCTV implanted outside the doorstep, the time taken was stated at exactly 5:03. "Don't look like you've just taken a shower"
"I...I got the timing mistaken....I..ah..."
"Let me tell you something" YunHo drags his chair right next to the suspect and says with a very low voice.
"You are a busy man, so am I. Yours is to sell paintings. Mine is to cross people like you and crush them"
"Either you tell us what we want to know or we'll going to keep you here for as long as we want" HeeChul translated.
+=+=+=+=+=
"Well, case close" YunHo waved the file at his team as he got into the room then ignoring the looks on his new co-workers to YooChun. "Tell Jae"
A few minutes ago, Johnny Mark admitted to the murder of Alice Yee. He was following her that night after she left the party with a male friend. He wanted to reconcile with her but she was violent, hitting him with her handbag. Mark blamed on the drugs he took that made him unaware of his actions. He didn't know he was strangling her until she was unconscious but denied of any stabs involvement.
Although he hates to admit it but YooChun knew they got more than a murderer to catch. None of Mark's characteristics fits the profile and he keeps denying of having any connections with the stabbing. One thing is, the wounds on her, the end point was slightly to the left, a prove the stabber is right-handed. Mark's left.
The person they're looking for is somewhat disturbed, very messy by the wounds made, someone who has sexual fantasies of her. Mark dated her, that didn't count. But YooChun didn't want to argue now, he is willing to wait until they reach their office. He knows this is going to be messy but he forgot about JunSu here.
"No, not yet" JunSu shook his head, snatched away the phone from YooChun then hung up before it gets to JaeJoong. "He didn't admit the stabbings"
"She died of strangulation and that's that" YunHo concludes.
"She was stabbed nine times" JunSu questioned. "You don't see any importance in that?"
"What did we missed, 'show-off'?" YunHo smirked.
"We have a psycho killer walking around the street carrying a knife" JunSu ignores the 'name-calling' and continued to explain his curiosity.
"We found the killer, that's that!" YunHo concludes the second time. This time with force. JunSu is confused with the attitude.
Having been to court cases and dealing with the selection of panels, JunSu knew what to expect from both defendant and prosecutor. And although Mark had admitted to the murder, there are still unexplainable sightings on the victim. How is YunHo going to explain to the victim's family about the extra wounds found or what causes it? How does all these do any justice to the victim if they didn't know what really went wrong?
For a while there, JunSu doubted YunHo's ability as a Chief. Did he cheated in the test or something? What is wrong with YunHo?
"How do you explain that she didn't retaliate to any of the attacks directed to her" JunSu argued but when he saw the chief's face still the same, he continues, "Am I the only one here who cares?"
YooChun stood in the corner of the room, waiting for the right time to step in whenever needed. He isn't a coward but he knows better than to retaliate like how JunSu is doing. He was watching the whole time; watched how YunHo was getting all edgy around JunSu.
YooChun was born in England, with a degree in Criminal Justice but was assigned to the Royal Navy right after graduation where he was the counter-intelligence (CI) officer. He disliked there so he ran away but was found a few days later and got into a week lock-up before rescued by the Commissioner who puts him in the then newly CSU. JaeJoong and himself are the only original line-up of the team.
Although he would admit that whatever is going on before him is fun, he has to find another way for this source of entertainment as he saw the youngest member's expression, and from the body language, he knew it's not going to turn out good.
"I agree!" ChangMin took sides.
"This case is not close until we find the best possible answer" JunSu ignored YunHo and continue with his idea. "I suggest we go back to the crime scene tomorrow. I'm sure there's something we missed"
"Wo wo wo wo wait! On further due respect. I'm the Chief here and I do the calling" YunHo was furious.
"With all 'due' respect, Commissioner Kang gave us the order to plot all, not just one class. Under what authority do you propose to overrule the mission?"
"Under the rule that I'm the Chief and you're not!" YunHo pointed a finger to JunSu's chest rudely.
"Quit it, okay" YooChun quickly stands in the middle when he noticed the two are about to punch each other.
"Hyung! Just tell me what you need and I'll work it out!" ChangMin said, ignoring the looks of anger from the Chief.
"Hey, kid. This a**hole here may be the second lead" YunHo shoves ChangMin roughly to get his attention, points to JunSu then to ChangMin and himself "But YOU...YOU are under ME. YOU follow MY orders!!!"
"And according in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, I have the right freedom of speech as the right to hold opinions without interference" ChangMin argued back which sent YunHo mum for a moment.
YunHo gritted his teeth as he speaks, "Don't you ever think that your b*tch mother is the high end counselor, you -"
"You shut your f**king mouth about my mother!!!" ChangMin lunges forward, JunSu turns around as he uses his body to push ChangMin away.
"YunHo!!!" YooChun used his body to push, continues to yell as he tried to move forward. "Stop it!!!"
YunHo didn't like being pushed so he grabbed YooChun's hand, skillfuly swirl his arm behind and pinned him against the wall.
"What the hell are you doing!!!?" JunSu was undeniably angry at how YunHo treated his friend and co-worker like a criminal. He placed a forceful hand on YunHo whom quickly took JunSu's arm and slammed him against the wall. JunSu winced in pain as his back begins to hurt.
ChangMin who witnessed this walked forward with a fist, ready to punch that stupid asshole but was stopped by a walking stick across his chest. He turned to see JaeJoong hurled the whole stick to YunHo's back, HARD!!!
"Aaarrrggghh!!!" YunHo screamed in pain at the sudden contact of something solid, fell off to the floor on all fours then glared at the medical examiner who is glaring back at him.

Three out of the five CSUs are in the break-room, looking all weary and tired from a long day. They were instructed to go back by the Commissioner who happened to have heard the whole commotion when he was on his way to know more about their progress on the case. He was dissapointed and furious as to what he saw and informed them to meet him in his office first thing tomorrow morning.
Only YooChun, JunSu and ChangMin made it to the office. YunHo was nowhere while JaeJoong casually went back to his office to finish off where he left off.
YooChun stayed sitted as JunSu offered to massage his back while ChangMin massaging his.
YooChun tried to not let out a moan as the fingers relax his stiff muscle, running along his shoulders to his arm. 'Oh...that hands! Oh...yeah!'
JunSu on the other hand was oblivious of the whole thing. He was thinking about the case in his head and as to whether to quit the team when he had the chance.
ChangMin was thinking too - thinking when they can have proper lunch because he IS hungry and massaging his hyung's shoulder was draining more energy out of him.
The sound of the door creaked as the door opened and a head peeked in. The young detectives turned to see who it was. The person walked in, flashed a smile and a respected bow. ChangMin recognized him, it's KiBum.
"Hello! I'm Kim KiBum from Level 14"
"The library?" YooChun asked. KiBum nodded then took out a pen from his pocket as he walked nearer to ChangMin who had already straightened himself to greet the guest.
"I'm here to return your pen" KiBum returned the pen to ChangMin who took it courteously before showing them what he brought for the team. "I brought you doughnuts and coffees. I heard that all of you were busy all day"
"We are not stereotyped" YooChun lets out his opinion. He can never understand as to why people love to think that every single cop in the whole wide world loves to eat doughnuts. Aren't there any proper food around for cops?
"Oh...um -" KiBum looks dejected and so ChangMin cuts in.
"Oh come on, we are all hungry! Thank you, KiBum-sshi" ChangMin took the paper bag from him before inviting him to the break-room. "Please come in!"
"Who said that he can?" YunHo's voice suddenly appeared from behind KiBum.
"It's break time" ChangMin stood in front of KiBum, protecting him from the menace YunHo. YooChun and JunSu gets up to yet another argument?
"Still not anyone can waltz in here" YunHo stared at ChangMin then to KiBum who immediately took a step back. "Without my permission"
"It's oka -" KiBum bowed, about to walk away when ChangMin stops him.
"What IS your problem? He brought us lunch"
"That didn't mean he could walk in here" YunHo took a step forward to the tall boy.
"Where is your manners?"
"Where's yours?" YunHo said with a mocking tone then smirked. "Dare to talk to your superior like that?"
"You -"
"YunHo, may I have a word with you?" YooChun grabbed YunHo's arm and quickly ushers the Chief to the office, slammed the door which startle the younger members "What the hell is your problem!!!?"
"He was disrespectful!!!" YunHo yelled.
"So were you!!!" YooChun yelled back, swings his sore arm a little.
"How's your arm?" YunHo finally asked with a concern tone.
"Yeah, like you care!" YooChun snorted as he took a sit on the office chair.
"YooChun, you do know I don't like people blocking my advance"
"And I dislike you for treating JunSu that way!"
"You're on his side!!?" YunHo asked, totally disbelief of what he just heard.
"Let me tell you something, Jung YunHo" YooChun stood up, took a steady step towards the Chief. He and JaeJoong have been keeping some secrets from the ignorant YunHo and he feels that this is the right time to give out a hint. "The Commisioner gave us a warning the last time you put us into this shit and I'm going to do just about anything to keep my ass here. Anything at all!"
YooChun walked over to the door, before turning the knob, he managed to say, "And yes, I'm on his side"
And after that, YooChun left the office to the break room, leaving YunHo dumbfounded.
