The Week | Random Musings: Brazil, Totem, Skewers, and Bags Edition

OMG! *headdesk...stares at calendar* It's only Wednesday and in a minute it will be Thursday. I am so ready for this work week to end. *primal scream*

Everything went downhill on Monday from the moment I woke up. I was so exhausted because I hadn't slept well. I forced myself to get up after my alarm went off the first time, but I wasn't strong enough to say "no" to sitting on the chaise lounge "just for a minute to rest."

I got up and fixed my bed, but it seemed to take an extraordinarily long time to complete this simple task. My feet felt like I was wading through molasses and I kept smoothing down wrinkles that didn't exist. I stared at the clothes in my closet with complete and utter bewilderment-like nothing looked familiar-and then...

I woke up from my TWENTY MINUTE dream doze. Yes, I fell asleep on the chaise and dreamed that I was going through my morning routine. OMG. *headdesk infinitum* No wonder nothing looked right and I felt so sluggish. I always try to pick out clothes the night before to save time in the morning and Monday's ensemble was already hanging by the dresser. *sigh* I have never done that before. Thankfully I wasn't late because I had budgeted extra time for a stop at the bakery to get a croissant for breakfast. I ended up eating a quick bowl of cereal and banana.

This set the tone for the past three days and I have been anxious and feeling like I'm going to be late for something. I need to relax. Fortunately, there are and were good things about this week:

• After attending tonight's informational meeting, I have made up my mind about going to Brazil for World Youth Day in 2013. It is going to be organized chaos due to the sheer amount people attending from all over the world, but I think it will be worth it to go. It is a pilgrimage, not a touristy type of vacation, so there will be a lot of things I will have to deal with including walking ten miles every day to get to location sites and possibly sleeping on the school floors (NO, please, no!). It really depends on which accommodations the group chooses and I just can't go off by myself to hotel or something; we have to stay together.

• I am going to see Cirque du Soleil's Totem in San Jose on Friday with my mom and my mom's colleague who is our mutual friend. They are taking their ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recertification exam and this show and dinner is in celebration of passing. Failure is not an option since it is needed to work in the unit. Apparently this certification involves running drills and working on actual mannequins and two days of class time. They will definitely need to relax afterwards. I'm just happy they chose to include me. I love Cirque du Soleil.
Random Musings

• My mom's shift usually shares their food since they work twelve hours and eat at odd times (1am is typical). Last Saturday, I helped my dad marinate and barbecue pork shishkebobs for our family dinner and Mom's work dinner. Skewering the meat is tedious and messy work, but the end product is super tasty. Mom packed twenty skewers, which was enough for everyone to have at least two. One of her colleagues was busy and it took her a while to get to the break room to eat. She placed the last kebob on a plate, but she was called away before she had a chance to microwave it. She comes back five minutes later only to find that someone has stolen it! O_o It is bad enough that she was only able to get one, but for it to walk off like that? Sad. While I'm happy that people loved what my dad and I grilled, I'm appalled that someone stole her food.

• I had some friends over for dinner on Monday night and one of them opened the fridge to get the calamansi I asked her to retrieve. She kind of freaked out a bit when she saw that it was in a biohazard bag. One of my mom's colleagues brought calamanasi fruits from her tree for everyone and they used the STERILE biohazard bags to distribute them. Mom gave me some since I love the sweet/tart citrusy tang of calamansi in water. Although in the same family, it is so different in taste from lemon. My calamansi tree hasn't produced many fruits yet, but my lemon trees are quite prolific. I guess it is is kind of odd to see a biohazard bag amongst fruits and vegetables, but until it is actually used, it is clean.
