One of the strange things that can happen when you go from aggressively not-caring-at-all-ever about sports to falling in love with a sport and a team is that, if you're like me, "your team" turns out to involve a lot more people than just whoever happens to be on the main roster this year.  There are trades, and free agency signings, which can ( Read more... )

Professional sports are important in a lot of ways, because it renews our sense of "fairness" in a way that the rest of life seems to lack, at least some of the time. The rules of sports exist in a way that makes it easy to know what's right and wrong which is why we relate to them so well. Fewer surprises or at least fewer issues with things that might be questioned otherwise.

Good luck to the Isles... it's been a while. At least the Rangers have been flirting with Lord Stanley's cup here and there.

It has been a while, then again mathematically speaking after the 1980-83 run it's probably burnt our Cup karma for decades...

I never cared about any sports until I met my husband and he showed me how awesome baseball is. We are a Braves family now, through and through. It has KILLED me over the years, when my heroes get traded - ESPECIALLY to teams I despise, lol!

A couple of weeks ago my driver and I talked hockey all the way home. He had played ball hockey in the off seasons with pro and semi-pros, and had great stories to tell. My mom and my grandmother and I used to watch the games together on TV. Then Mom and I would watch, each of us in our own homes, over the phone. I'm a Flames girl, or at least I used to be...

Maybe it's time to start watching again.

Thanks for the memories! Great piece!

The drafts always take it's toll on me. I can understand the conundrum about rooting for my home team when they play against the team with my favorite player. Good take on the prompt.
