[LJ Idol 10: Week 4] You know that I love the players

I wasn’t much of a sports fan during or just after college.  In fact, I had cultivated the geeky bookworm's well-practiced disdain for any and all team sports, though I would watch figure skating in the winter and follow swimming and track and field events (and sometimes gymnastics) during Summer Olympics years.  The most I could muster was token ( Read more... )

This was a fun read! My cousin follows the TB Lightning and if I had a team, I guess they'd be mine, but I know next to nothing about hockey. Skating just always seems difficult and magical to me. But enjoying teams with family is a good kind of magic, for sure.

I like the Lightning quite a lot - I have a friend who is a big fan of theirs, and because they seemed so similar back in 2014-15 we started referring to the Islanders as "Bolts North" and the Lightning as "Isles South." :)

I was always a Sabres fan growing up. My dad watched All The Sports and I could never really get into them the way I could hockey.

Weirdly, hockey games make me sleepy because hockey was always on in the background when I was falling asleep as a kid.

I've fallen out of touch with the sport in the last 10 years. I was never a super fan, I'd just watch and talk with my dad and brothers. Jimmy doesn't like sports so once we got together it just kind of drifted out of my life. We don't have tv service either.

It seemed kind of inescapable in Buffalo, really. Especially 10 years ago. :)

This was such a wonderful story to read! We used to be huge Wichita Thunder fans when we lived there. Wow. That was 20 some years ago. The games were so much fun.

The games are fun and the players we've met have been really nice and good to the kids.

Being a Philly girl (now transplanted to NJ shore) I had a hard time with all this Islanders love! (Hehehe) Here's to the season- and may both our teams do well. Hug and peace~~~D

I like Philly when it's not a conflict of interest - Simmer's awesome, I'm glad Neuvy's found a good team, and I do like your Ghostbear - he's a local college boy here in the Capital District so I see a lot of his jersey around. :)
