WARNING: EXTREMELY TRIGGER-Y FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT. In my head, there is context for this, and Arthur thinks it's more consensual than it is, but the bottom line is it's still rape ( ... )

I read this as a scene, and that makes it good for me. *firm nod* Must ignore the last bit. Must ignore. OTHERWISE AWESOME.

You can pretend the last bit doesn't exist. Because I don't really know what I was doing here anyway. It was supposed to be disturbing, and then it got sexy which made it more disturbing.

God, this was disturbing, but mostly because I really liked it. I usually have to be in a certain state of mind to enjoy darker fic, like I'll usually stop reading part way through. This grabbed me in and I couldn't stop reading it. It was tragically, horribly beautiful.

On my second read through I had to reconcile it with my non dark Arthur, so I read it as a preplanned scenario between A & E, but Eames was unprepared for how Zola would actually feel.

That's a really interesting interpretation, and definitely would be easier for A & E to come back from, if it was a pre-negotiated scene that ended up as a completely different experience than Eames intended.

In my head, even if it's not negotiated, Arthur thinks that Eames will just turn back into himself if he doesn't want it. So he is, to a certain extent, acting in good faith. Maybe not the total sweetness-and-light Arthur, but not actively sinister.

I don't know if you intended it this way, but I sort of read it as not Arthur but a projection of Arthur. Maybe that's just what I needed to do to reconcile it with my mental Arthur, but I found it almost more psychologically compelling that way. And yes, it was very sexy... *goes to hell*

Glad you enjoyed! If it was a projection, was it Eames' projection of Arthur? That would be a fucked-up thing for Eames' subconscious, that's for sure.

God, that was hard to read, but also a bit like tonguing at a loose tooth. It's weird to know and understand what she/Eames feels but still manage to find it...interesting. I don't know if hot is the right word (at least for me). I know anon ^^^ said they read this as projection-Arthur, but I can very much imagine this happening with the "real" Arthur if they weren't on the same page.

Anyway. I appreciated the strange blend you made here. If you ever actually wrote what this does to E/A's relationship I would read it in a heartbeat -- Eames tearing the cannula out, running away, looking at himself in the mirror to make sure he's not her -- it's so disturbing, enthralling.

Um. Anyway. Thank you for writing this. +cowers+

Thanks for reading and commenting! I disturbed myself by writing it, so... yeah. I think it's something that would have been hot for Eames in theory, and maybe even that he'll find hot in retrospect at some point, but in the moment he was in character enough to react to it more as a real rape. I'm not a sexual assault survivor, but I was thinking about what I've heard from survivors and how much of the trauma comes from guilt. Maybe I was even a little motivated by thinking about how Eames gets all the fun of being women in dreams without having to really live it. As himself, he can get drunk by himself in a bar, he can walk alone at night and only have to worry about being mugged. So he has the double mind-fuck of his character not fighting back as much as she's "supposed to" and of not being able to be himself to resist. It doesn't help that Arthur verbally plays up the clichés about how she/he obviously "wants" it because of her clothing and her physical arousal ( ... )

I -- just, yes. I thought this exactly but wasn't sure how much analyzing should go on in a kink meme. /o\ I can see the guilt coming in hard -- perhaps not in the traditional ways in this case ("I shouldn't have been walking in that area" "why did I wear that?" "why was I alone") but more "why didn't I forge back?" "why didn't I just say no?" It's a fascinating set-up. If Eames really does sink so deeply into characters, one would think any character-sex would benefit/suffer in turn.

That's one thing I was also going to wax poetic about re: this story. Lines like: He suppresses it; out of character. There's so much THERE in six words, it actually boggles my mind.

So, err. I could talk about this forever, but tl'dr: I completely agree. talking +1.

Ahh. Creepy as it may be to say, I have been jonesing for some Eames-forging-a-woman noncon, and this delivered beautifully. It's hot (if you like erotic noncon), it's disturbing, it's got multiple interpretations to chew on. (Was it Arthur or a projection? Was it a scene that got out of hand? Did Eames expect to get lost in the forge? Will this linger, or will he shake back into himself? Etc.) Very nice!

Well, it was certainly disturbing and humiliating in a way that kept it from being erotic to me. I mean, this is just plain old rape of the classic type, with Eames thinking and wanting to say no the whole time and being psychologically dominated such that he can't. The sickest rapists often make their victims tell them they like it and how they love them, etc. If it was some game they were playing, Eames wouldn't be thinking that he wanted to say no--he might be telling himself that he *should*, but he wouldn't actually mean it--that would be actual role-play ( ... )
