A/N: Erm. I love Gwen and I love Jack/Ianto. And I’m having one of those days where you live in your head and talk to yourself. I wrote this in half an hour. Its kind of philosophy of Torchwood but with Jack asleep. And I don't often agree with love but I'm in a weird mood. As I said. And once again, thank you to my lovely Jen skullgirl013 She tells me it's good to post, bless her, she's the best.

Gwen walked across the cold Hub floor to where Ianto was leaning against the wall, a coffee mug in his hands and his legs crossed at the ankle.

‘What -‘

‘Shhhh.’

Ianto turned to look at her and nodded his head towards the sofa. Jack was asleep. His head resting on his hands cushioned on the arm, his great coat draped over him where Ianto had placed it carefully over his body and a slight frown on his face, almost as if he was annoyed he was asleep and not doing something else.

‘Oh.’

‘He doesn’t sleep a lot.’ Ianto whispered, sipping his coffee slowly and watching Jack.

‘Why?’

‘I don’t know.’ Ianto shrugged and looked across at her.

She sighed and folded her arms. ‘Another great mystery in the secret life of Captain Jack Harkness.’

‘Everyone has secrets Gwen.’

‘Torchwood has secrets you mean Ianto. Jack has secrets.’

‘Everyone has secrets Gwen. Like you do with Rhys, like I did after Torchwood One when I had Lisa.’ He fell silent for a second and Gwen waited for him to continue. ‘Jack’s been here longer than any of us. It stands to reason he has more secrets than any of us.’

She thought about Rhys and sighed. ‘You tell the people you love your secrets.’

‘He loves us.’ Ianto answered quickly, looking over at her. ‘He loves us Gwen whether he tells us everything he knows or does or sees or not, don’t think he doesn’t love us. Like you love Rhys. It’s just…love and Torchwood…it’s complicated.’

‘Because Torchwood breeds secrets.’ Gwen replied harshly. ‘And death.’

‘And in amongst all that is life, aliens and worlds and a Universe - Universes,’ he corrected, ‘full of life.’

‘And, Jack.’ Gwen sighed as they watched him. ‘One life, lived a million times.’

Ianto nodded. ‘And Jack. Torchwood isn’t just death and destruction, even if it feels like it. There’s life, there’s things we see everyday Gwen that the world has no clue about, don’t you think you know enough?’

‘No.’

Ianto laughed quietly and shook his head at her. ‘Jack’s right about you.’

She smiled at him and they both stared at Jack sleeping for a few minutes.

‘It’s just…’ Ianto turned to look at her again as she searched for the words. ‘It’s just, there’s Torchwood and Jack and secrets and life. Except you have all of them.’ She frowned as she worked it out. ‘You have Torchwood and its secrets in your bed. In your real life. I don’t have that.’

Ianto took another slow gulp of coffee and chewed his lip for a second. ‘I’m under no illusions about mine and Jack’s…relationship Gwen. I know we aren’t Cathy and Heathcliff. Cardiff Bay isn’t the Yorkshire moors and he’s not my hearts darling.’ Gwen grinned and Jack sighed sleepily, fidgeting under his coat until his face was hidden. ‘He is all those things but he’s also my secret Gwen.’

She turned to look at him again as he gazed at her over his coffee cup, draining the last of it silently. ‘What?’

‘He’s my secret.’ Ianto repeated, looking back over at Jack sadly, left hand in his pocket and leaning his head against the side of the cool metal of the wall. ‘I have a life. Sister, nephew and nieces, mother, friends in London, friends in Cardiff, ex-girlfriends and boyfriends but Jack…he’s different.’

‘Do you love him?’

‘Yes.’

Gwen nodded. ‘Then that’s all that matters.’

Ianto bowed his head and smiled at her, pushing himself off the wall and stroking a hand down her arm. She leaned in and kissed him on the cheek softly before heading out of the Hub and home to Rhys. Ianto stood and watched Jack for a few more minutes. Myfanwy rustled above them and Ianto walked slowly over to him, putting the mug down on the table and leaning down over Jack. Ianto ran a hand through his hair and smiled as Jack murmured sleepily and opened his eyes.

‘Hey.’ He grinned at Ianto, blinking and shifting underneath the coat as he woke up.

‘Hi.’ Ianto kissed him and cupped his cheek. ‘Love you.’

Jack gazed at him. ‘Love you too.’ He whispered, leaning up and pressing his lips against Ianto’s, closing his eyes as they kissed in the quiet still of the Hub.
