A football fan in progress

Nov 26, 2010 21:03

I've been thinking about making a post like this for a while. I think what prompted me into action was me posting a whole bunch of crests of various teams on my tumblr. This is mostly an rambling exercise for me so that I can put everything in perspective like a year from now and see what type of fan I am then. I didn't post this on tumblr since my ( Read more... )

This is the most I've written so far this year. My assignments are never this writing heavy nowadays and this was voluntary too. Thank you, this was so spur of the moment for me. I think this is design student procrastination. No drawing things, but long ass fandom essays. I also think the word you are looking for is tempo. The essay has tempo.

eee~ I'm excited too!

Wandered over here from hala_madrid and stopped to read the essays. :D Just wanted to say that a book I really enjoyed as an RM newbie was John Carlin's White Angels, about the Galacticos era. Not only are there great portraits of some of the legends like Zidane, Raul, and Figo, but there's a fascinating look at the club's business practices and RM as a brand. And seeing as Florentino Perez is back as president, it's all the more relevant.

I honestly wrote these essays on a whim and it was really cathartic in a way. But I think after this game I can definitely say that I'm a madridista now.

Thanks for reading and thank you for the book recommendation. I'll definitely try to look for it since it does sound like a fascinating read. ♥ I hope I can find it.

Well, I couldn't ignore the bait of Real Madrid and AC Milan in back to back posts. :D (Incidentally, rather than leave a separate comment, I'll just say here that your point about nostalgia and AC Milan was spot on, I think!) And, oh man, yeah, this is the type of match that either cements identities and loyalties or strips you of them.

It really was. All I remember from the match was how badly we played and I had to take off my earphones near the end of it. It was painful to watch but I just could not listen to the game anymore. And yet, I was also thinking about how we will come back from this. No matter how long it takes us.

But, I have to admit I'm a little flabbergasted at the fact it only took some people one bad game to sway their opinions. Like on some distance level I could understand if it was a series of bad games/seasons or even a really bad change in administration. But ONE game against a fairly difficult opponent?

I'll just say here that your point about nostalgia and AC Milan was spot on, I think! It's weird. I watch their games and some part of me always want to watch them when a lot of their players were at their prime and when they had a bunch of other players. Even with the way the results they're getting now, I think this. I think at that point I knew I ( ... )
