Gardening and exercise are totally great! Yeah, reading novels or otherwise engaging in negative fiction doesn't help (when you're already in a funk). It's really intriguing how those stories and things affect us, sometimes subtley.
If you're planning to do a yardsale this year, the first weekend of May is the time to do it, because of Open Studios.
Can you bribe yourself to do more positive stuff and less negative stuff? Sometimes I manage to play great mind-games with myself: today, for instance, I told myself, "When I've washed the dishes, then I can have a salad." (I didn't finish the dishes because the baby had other ideas, but that's beside the point.)
Apparently I am super happy about the weather - so we should go for a walk this evening! Also, generally getting outdoors for walk/play in sunlight is a near-future goal for me.
The first way I am going to be nice to myself is I'm not going to play any videogames today (I've been playing a lot of Plants vs. Zombies this week. The demo levels. Over and over.)
I once played a Flash game about waiting in line at the DMV for nine hours. (Nine hours of play. Also nine hours of waiting in line; it was a 1:1 real time game.)
