Daniel tosses one last pitchfork of compost rich soil into his shaky wheelbarrow, and hauls it towards the last section of the garden. It's a relief to have long days again- sunshine does wonders for his mood. Especially after nursing along a dozen recalcitrant tomato plants, grown from seed. He chuckles, hopefully quiet enough so she can't hear. "I'm sure you're doing fine. Unless you'd rather handle the horse shit?"

Crabapple snorts and swishes her tail. She's happily cropping the small circle of grass that has yet to be dug up for gardening space.

Anna laughs, a short bark of sound.

Mostly because the spinach is frustrating.

"That seems like something it would be incredibly difficult to mess up."

Then, hastily--

"Not that I'm suggesting I've messed up the spinach--"

"Hm. Not that I'm saying there was a reason I had you try planting those seeds first. Spinach is very good for you, after all. However, I won't be disappointed if every crop we plant doesn't come up."

He has lots of spinach seeds. The world is unfair.
