x-posted to runners

Hello Friends!

About 2.5 months ago, I began working full-time as a CENA (in MI, that is a certified, evaluated nurse's aide).  This basically means that I take care of adorable old peeps all day.  I wipe butt, get people in and out of bed, rotate those who stay in bed, feed, shower, clothe and shave.  Everything that we all take for ( Read more... )

Wii Fit and lots of water, plus an OK diet does pretty well. It is when I stop doing those that it makes me gain.

ahhh I kinda think wii fit is a joke.

I am a veggie that is hyper conscious of balance and runs about 20 miles a week. I take fitness and health very seriously.

Not a joke, just not something to base your life or death health on.

To be fair, I have tried it. I figured I should try it if I was going to poopoo it. It didn't cause me to work up a sweat and I wasn't nearly as exhausted as a good run could make me. Personally, I feel like exercise is a great excuse to get out of the house and move through space-- and running does just that.

wii Fit is good if people aren't going to do anything else, but I really like a challenge.

lots of fruit, veggies, whole grains and water does it for me and exercise (running/elliptical/yoga) 4 days a week.

i know i'm not as busy as you, but with 6 classes, 3 jobs, and volunteering, i am exhausted by the end of the day as well, but still force myself to work out.

and honestly, i haven't felt this great in awhile. i have so much energy! it's so weird!

I already exercise about 6 days a week. 2 days of power yoga, four days of running, and elliptical after the power yoga twice a week. I am also a long standing veggie that eats over twice the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

It is nature of my job that is exhausting and causes my body to ache, and that is the greatest challenge. I have had challenging schedules plenty of times in my life, but nothing that literally causes muscles strains. It is rough.

Hey there, the only thing I can think of is to be conscious of how you are working while at work. With the heavy lifting that a nurse must do, there are a lot of awkward lifts that must be done. I would be sure to always lift ergonomically, let your patients do some of the work in lifting and rotating (if they can), and don't strain yourself when you don't have to. Check out OSHA standards for lifting (lift with the legs, things like that).

Good luck!
