Quite enjoyed work today. It was the annual xmas-called-Holiday Dinner, in the newly restored Hargreaves Hall. Prime rib for 300 in a big high-ceilinged room, the university's former library. Worked on salad prep and then stood and smiled and carved prime rib and schmoozed and wore the big hat and the trophy jacket. Served the university president ( Read more... )

I'm supposed to ride in the EWU homecoming parade tonight as the Eagle Chef. It's raining, and no one at work has made any sort of provision for me to be gone for two hours. Some occasion. Oh well, at least I get to wear the big hat and the trophy chef jacket. I'll still have to mop the damn floor afterward.

Tonight there was a special harvest dinner on campus, but the majority of the kids came to me for a crappy taco bar instead. We were slammed. It sucked. The kids are ignorant.

Tonight was the last easy night. All the student supervisors were on duty together and most of the kids aren't there yet. They move in tomorrow: free hotdog giveaway for 500, survival skills pasta dinner for 600, several fruit trays and reception platters, all on top of the regular service. There was a booth outside the grocery store here in Medical Lake, staffed by EWU students from the Riverpoint campus. They were gathering food for Second Harvest. I bought them a case of ramen noodles from the little list they were handing out. For six bucks I got to feel good about myself and my employer. Woo.
