You should have gone.

The Maltese Falcon was after Casablanca. Both were spectacular.

I first saw Casablanca about a year ago. Gus found out I hadn't seen it and he put it at the top of our Netflix queue. I was really impressed with it... once I got past all the one-liners that have been pulled out of it. :)

Thanks for reminding me to go look at the Paramount's schedule, btw. *begins countdown to September 3rd*

Got past the one-liners?? That's like the second best aspect of the movie! :)

What is Sept 3?

Re: one liners: It's hard for me to hear something like "Here's lookin' at you, kid" and not see (in my head) the dozens of times I've heard it elsewhere. This is the main reason why I didn't like Forrest Gump. By the time I finally saw it all the kids in high school had been quoting the damn thing for a few months, so the movie was just a bunch of over-used quotes strung together for me. :/

Re: Sept 3: Gone with the Wind!! On the big screen!! Every other year I've heard about the Paramount showing after it happened. This year I will be there come hell or high water! Best. Movie. Ever! :D

I'm also contemplating completely throwing away a Saturday or Sunday in mid-June and watching all three Indian Jones movies back to back to back ;)

Ahh. Good deal. I'm glad to see they added it. When I first checked it, the schedule wasn't complete.

The next main one I'm looking forward to, is the Marx Brothers, right around my birthday.

Raiders wouldn't be bad either. Esp. since they are working on the fourth installment right now.

I'm a huge fan of Cary Grant and Casablanca has always been one of my very favorite films. Back when Ted Turner was colorizing every B&W film, I used to use Casablanca as my main example as to the horror of doing such. Every scene is lighted beautifully using the medium of the time perfectly and to colorize it would have been like changing the colors on a Van Gogh. Luckily, I don't think they ever got around to colorizing that one.

I had Ky put The Awful Truth on her netflix and if you like Hepburn too, Bringing Up Baby is also great.

Yay for no colorizing of Casablanca! I agree that the lighting in it was superb.

I'm slowly educating him to the classics. I'll check and see if I have Bringing Up Baby, it's one of my faves.

He-he. That reminds me of back before my ex and I broke up.

We, at the time and according to them, "forced" the boys to go see Singin' in the Rain. Hated it going in, loved it coming out.

The oldest boy loved it so much, he put the DVD on his Christmas list that year.

I must say I teared up a bit when Bogie was telling Bergman to get on that plane. Bogie was such a great mix of the stern exterior and the softie inside. Too many one-liners to count, from "Here's looking at you, kid" to "We'll always have Paris". And, I'm quite sure now this movie is the source of the phrase "usual suspects".

I have said for years that man is easily one of the BEST actors to ever grace the screen. He can say more with one look, with a facial expression than many other can with 3 pages of dialoug. Johnny Depp is right behind him.

Was also the inspiration behind The Usual Suspects, right down to the production company for the movie, Blue Parrot Productions. Bryan Singer is such a hoot!

Hey Carey grant is just cool. You want want another female to knock your socks off look at Myrna Loy, and as you noted Catherine Hepburn especially in her younger day...wowsa. Clara Bow or lest I forget Jean Harlow.
