Yeah, it's tough to create a character whose views are almost totally opposite of your own. There's a real danger of making them caricatures. Perhaps you could find a viewpoint that you can kinda/maybe understand, and then use that to build the character on; someone who thinks that view is the single most important thing to consider. In other words, find something that you can identify with, and exaggerate it.
