We just got a DVD of Maya Deren's films and it included her husband Alexander Hammid's short film The Private Life of a Cat. I'd seen it before online but I just had to watch it again. Here 'tis for those who haven't seen it. It's very sweet. Warning for scenes of real kitten birthin'! B&W, no sound.

Aw, the private life of cats! I haven't seen that in ages. I love how the tomcat comes across as adolescent -- the mother is nurturing them and carrying them around, and he's all "hmm! funny little things, hey she's licking them, I want my lovings too!" and "hey, these are fun to play with."
