Joshw.org Syndication

Neat, I didn't know this existed. You can add the feed for my actual blog to your friends list now. The LJ username is joshwdotorg and here is the direct link to add it. You have to click the link at the top, since the posts don't contain full text.

Thanks to whoever set that up :)

I would imagine you can, but I have no idea how. Look for XML syndication, which is how they're doing this.

In case you didn't work this out (it's not obvious): If someone's blog has an RSS/XML/RDF (?) feed, then you can add it to your friends list by visiting the LiveJournal syndication page. I'm not sure if this is a paid-member feature or if anyone can do it.

Syndication -- both by adding other external XML feeds to your Friends List, and syndicating your LiveJournal out to other locations, is covered in LiveJournal's Syndication FAQ.

To answer your not-quite-a-question regarding who can do it:

The creation of a new feed account in LiveJournal requires a Paid or Permanent account, because a new feed costs 1.00 Syndication points (explained in the FAQ), and Free members only have 0.99. Once the feed is created and has an LJ name associated with it, anyone can add it as along as they have enough Syndication points left. The cost to watch a feed drops from 1.00 as more people start watching it -- the more people are watching the feed on their friends lists, the less expensive it is for everyone.
