i wish this had passed. it would have meant that finally our armed services wouldn't be made out almost entirely of the impoverished who just join up in most part because they need the money. Many other countries do this, and I don't know anyone in Israel or Cuba at least that I know who thinks it's a bad thing. It unites the classes, and the people, and has the possibility of instilling patriotism in the citizens. that doesn't mean i wouldn't be scared, and that doesn't mean i think we should just start signing people up to go to war... But I think the institution of a bill like this would probably be a good thing in the long run.
ps. i guess i really would only agree with this if we weren't currently at war. i'm not saying people should be forced to go to war... just that they have a mandatory year or something to serve their country (i think 2 is a bit much). And-- hey, I don't have to worry about it anymore, so what the hell! Sign the kids up!
