What Polly Did Next: Intermezzo

May 08, 2011 19:59

Summary: If Monstrous Regiment could be filed under “What Polly Did” this would fall under the remit of “What Polly Did Next” covering as it does the joys, trials and tribulations of our eponymous heroine, picking up sometime in the year following the final paragraph of MR. (Polly/Mal)

Excuse the late reply, I read this last night but a girl has to sleep sometimes.

Eeeeeee *likes*. I love your Mal and all but she truly has no concept of recognising when she's acting like a jerk. And even then I probably didn't get half of Polly's conundrum (but I'm glad they worked it out anyway). What happened (or didn't happen) since Winter? (I mean, of course it is said in the text. I'm just like why, how, what am I missing, can I has moar description).

I was younger then, remember?

Yeah, right. Like she grew since then XD

Tiramisu is a bit of a silly name and you changed it to Tiramasu halfway through, I dunno.

Also, they are so awesomely cute on that couch.

You liked? Ah, cool.

Sleep? Sleep is for the weak!

Mal knew she was being a jerk. She just didn't know how to stop. I mean, she's been ordering Polly around since day one, it's just that recently Polly has stopped arguing back. And what do you do if your entire schtick of snark and stuff suddenly works excessively well and you really didn't want it to after all.

And she is trying to grow up. She's learnt ever such a lot already!

Ooops, name disaster. *edits*

I did like writing the couch. Liked it a lot.

You liked? Ah, cool.

You surprised? :D

But there's a difference between snark and stuff and not knowing, or not caring, that Polly may not appreciate her ordering stuff that Polly can't really afford and doesn't need. Bit like Mal being all 'omg how dare you' in Autumn (was it Autumn) when Polly expressed (not very diplomatically) her concerns over the thralling thing. I mean, it is a valid concern.

I meant 'grew' as in 'acquire height' (I'm partial to short vampires). Also, the name makes me hungry.

But (and I'm just being all Mal-defensive here, I know) what if you've got a character who hasn't really interacted with humans for a while, she might forget that people have pride and whatever. And they were in a hurry and so she just did the most efficient thing. And Polly never actually SAID she wanted blue. They're both just making assumptions left right and centre.

I suppose I just wanted Mal to not be "perfect". Cos that can get annoying. She isn't too much of a Jerk, is she? I mean, you don't want Polly to up and leave her, do you?

Short Mal is awesome.
