[Stickler/Jdrama/Poll filler] Its isn't it's Wikipedia!

Wikipedia is a good source of up-to-date, immediate information . . sometimes. Its advantage and disadvantage is that it's open to everyone to edit, and not everyone knows how to write an encyclopedia article. I often find a lot of generalizations, a lack of citations, heavy use of informal voice, and many, oh so many typos. Some articles are so ( Read more... )

I got them all. Woo. Although, God knows some of them I've only heard about and/or seen clips of (stand up "Hey! Spring of Trivia").

Really? So what is an "Endurance?"

Oh and btw, I finally finished Hibiki and yeah, don't bother watching those last episodes, really really disappointing. Consider me a member of the "ends at 30" group.

Really? So what is an "Endurance?"

It's a game show that was really popular over here during the 80s. They started off showing clips of it on "Tarrant on TV" and eventually it got given its own English language commentary like "Takeshi's Castle". The basic premise is a number of contestents having to endure crazy shit...like having live scorpions poured over them and staying there in a confined perspex box for a set time etc. The kind of shit that leaves mental scars.

Speaking of Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Za_Gaman

One of the things it inspired over here was an English show called "Banzai" which was a kind of piss take of the 'genre' if you can call it that.

No wonder, Endurance was a bit before my time. ;) I do remember Banzai though . . I actually really enjoyed it, too bad all the racism accusations got it cut 3 episodes later. I mean, I'm sensitive enough to even find William Hung racist and Banzai didn't bug me. :P

Man, Hibiki's ending had Faiz written all over it. They introduce a twist and a new villain with 5 minutes to spare and never resolve it. >_< I'm done with Kamen Rider until all the Faiz writers have retired.

There`s a flaw to your poll!!!! ;)
It seems most of the people in you friends list are either in Japan, or they`ve spent a considerable amount of time there!

Yeah I know, but it's not like I'm publishing my findings in an academic journal. ;) Seriously though, I think I know my Japanese pop culture quite well and there's still 3 titles up there I've never heard of. ^^;

They forgot Astroboy. And Kimball the Lion (or whatever his name was).

Astroboy definitely should be included. Kimba . . hm, too obscure for the average guy. Seriously, ask the person nearest you if he/she knows Kimba and I bet you'll get a "no." ;)

I answered your poll, reinterpreting the word "know" to mean "have heard the name of"!
