I came, I saw, I screamed

I want to thank my teacher, Murai-sensei, for letting me use his laptop. What happened?

Yesterday, when I returned from after-school cleaning, I discovered that a student, I still don't know who, spilled quite a lot of water onto my keyboard. While he/she was nice enough to put the cup back to standing position, he/she did not have the courtesy to notify me immediately or clean the water. So basically, my laptop was soaking in water for at least 10 minutes. Try as I might to save it, my laptop was dead.

Now my laptop is on its way to Toshiba . . . I've been told that it'll take about two weeks, but it's probably more like two months since I don't think Toshiba Japan has Toshiba Canada parts. While it will probably cost me an astronomical amount to repair it and I basically have to cancel all my Christmas and summer plans to make up for it, what really worries me is if my data is safe as it's irreplaceable. Basically, I risk losing my hundred pages of journal notes, my hundreds of photos of Japan, and all my teaching material. And since I rely heavily on my computer to plan lessons, the next few weeks are going to be maddening.

On the bright side, I've been getting headaches lately whenever I use the computer, so this will be a good chance to give my eyes a rest, though I would've preferred something less drastic.

In summary, no computer = no internet = no e-mail, no IM, and journal suspended indefinitely. I'll respond to comments for my last entry next time when I get my computer back, so in the wise words of the New Kids: "Hang tough."

Maybe it's time I join a religion because someone up there is obviously angry at me.

The doctor is out,
Kevin
