Oscars vs. Golden Globes shoot-out! **2007**

Feb 24, 2008 20:02

Did you notice a pattern in my movie reviews? I was actually trying to watch every Oscar and Golden Globe nominated film from last year. Well, I've finally seen them all (minus two) and so here's my thoughts on LAST YEAR's awards (last minute as usual :P reeeally rushing this out before this year's ends in another hour!!).
BTW, I'd like to thank ( Read more... )

Letters from Iwo Jima was my favorite movie last year...
...any movie where a member of an annoying boyband dies a horrible death has to be good...

Would that be Nino? Since he's the only member of a boyband I know in that movie eventhough I haven't and have no intention to see it.

Then you mustn't have liked Iwo Jima, because as I recall, the boyband member is the only one who lives. Well, him and the Ima Ai dude.

Well, movie opinion varies a lot . . almost everyone thought POTC2 was disappointing, but I loved it. So does your library also have a vast collection of DVDs?

Ha, I was actually a big fan of Ace Ventura when I was a kid. Sadly, when I heard the Jr., I thought "Son of Mask" and "Dumb and Dumberer." Will we be getting "The Cable Kid" soon too?

I'm starting to think that none of the Academy bothered seeing this film -- how could it miss so many categories??

They ignored Truman Show, which was a very similar film in tone, too. And Truman Show was fucking AWESOME.

THOUGHTS: Can someone tell me what the difference is between Art Direction and Cinematography?

Cinematography is the camerawork. Art Direction is what the sets look like.

Good point on the Truman Show, I can definitely see some similarities. Really, no nominations at all? It was a great movie, hopefully it got some nods from the more liberated Globes. Still loved Stranger than Fiction more, though I am a writer at heart. :)

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I always figured the director was in charge of the camerawork though?

The director is the overseer of everything, but has sub-delagates for specialties like that.

On the plus side I went to Wonder Con this weekend and saw movie previews for Prince Caspian, WallE (Pixar), The X-Files movie, and Get Smart. They all look entertaining and well done!

Trailers can be deceiving though . . I find many to be better than the movie. Case in point: Transformers. They put the 2 minutes of good in the trailer but left out the 140 minutes of suck. ;)
