The "W" Word

May 27, 2007 21:00

I hate weddings. The tradition, the crappy music, the crying, the lovey-dovey sentiments . . it's like watching an 8-hour romantic comedy. >_<

Thankfully, I've managed the avoid them for the past 20 years . . until now. >_< My cousin has sent our family an invitation and engraved in flowery font . . was my name.

My initial reaction )

rant, family, wazzupwitdat, culture_shock

Burn down the restaurant. Because if you end up going to the wedding, you can have the happy thought of never ever having to eat at that restaurant again.

Or take a road trip somewhere. But, the day before the wedding, tell your parents you won't be able to make it down on time because of mass flooding/killer bees/escaped zoo animals/snow storms in August/etc.

How long has it been since we've gotten a comedy out of one of those festivals? I read somewhere that it's been 30 years since a comedy won Best Picture (I don't know if that's true, it may depend on if you consider Shakespeare In Love to be a comedy or not). That's why I was pulling so hard for Little Miss Sunshine to win. And hell, it was way better than The Departed. Hated that movie.

Remember that little dance number Will Ferrell and co did at the Oscars? ^_^ I notice the Academy almost always nominates a comedy for Best Picture but they never win. It's like the token black guy! Maybe they need to make a separate "comedy" category, like the Golden Globes did.

Wow, lots of hate for The Departed on my f-list. I'm trying my best to keep an open-mind when I see it . . I've seen 4 Scorsese movies so far and loved them all.

I'd go for the usual "The love of my life is flying off to (insert city/country/planet here) and I have to get on a (insert slow-moving mode of transportation here) so I can tell her how I feel in person!". Never fails.

Have someone say you're spending the year dead for tax purposes?
