Yay! No more finals! I now have a week of freedom shopping, cleaning, packing and otherwise getting ready for my internship. For the last month I've been living with the constant buzz of Things To Do bubbling merrily away in the back of my head, distracting white noise that will hopefully abate somewhat in about two weeks when I'm properly settled ( Read more... )

I vote Spanish. Quite frankly, if you already speak English and French, then you have some background that will help you to identify similiarities. It would be easier to work with than Arabic or Japanese, which are much more difficult to master. Woukd you rather know a language backward and forward, or know it partially--which doesn't do you so much good on the job market. Plus, the percentage of Hispanics in the US is rising drastically and it should be a career plus to understand the language. You can't know what you don't understand--

And I agree that Arabic could land you in a not so nice place. Based on that reasoning, I'd choose Italian.

But Spanish is good.

I vote Russian because I studied Russian. Plus if you really like languages then it's an interesting pick what with the Cyrillic alphabet being Greek based and the various similarities (and differences) that you'll find. For example, did you know that there's no word for "fun" in Russian? Or that linguisticly they were predeisposed to Communism because in the Russian language you cannot say that you own something? (The literal translation of the phrase you would use is "Near to me there is...") Or did you know that Russian verbs are so specific because in the formative years of the language and culture when tribes were raiding and attacking one another all the time they needed to be able to convey as much information as possible in as few words as possible.

Vote Russian. It's the right thing to do.
