Giggling to herself, Mashiro shrugged. "Nah, I think it all takes a certain kinda skill and patience." She put a bowl on the table to mix the batter in, getting out mix and all of the other ingredients. "Mine are going to be loaded with chocolate. I used to give out just chocolates, but I thought maybe something a little different would be good."

Pausing, she tilted her head to the side in thought and took on that oddly cute, thoughtful appearance. "It's a special year this time."

Then she shook her head and looked back at Rukia. "Who're you giving your chocolate to?"

Rukia was still skeptical-given how many failures she'd had so far, she couldn't see how cupcakes wouldn't be easier-but she kept it to herself.

"Mmm, let me think," she said, tilting her head to the side. "Captain Ukitake, Ichigo, Renji, Sado, Hanataro, maybe some for Ichigo's father since he keeps sending things to me...and my brother, maybe. Though I'm not sure if he even likes chocolate." In years passed, frivolous things like chocolate seemed unthinkable to give to him, but they were talking more these days, and if she gave some to every other male she was close to...

Well, she could always make it and not give it to him if she decided it wasn't a good idea. Best to have it on hand just in case.

Raising her brows, Mashiro looked back at Rukia in shock. "You're in love with all of these people and your brother?!" she cried. In the past Mashiro always gave chocolates to her male Vaizard friends. That was really it. Way back when, before all of these problems came to a head, she hadn't given anything to anyone else other than Shinji, Love, Rose, and Kensei. And, because Mashiro was Mashiro, depending on that year's circumstance she'd give something to Hiyori or Lisa.

But Kensei always got the most and best chocolate of the entire batch.

"Well, um, anyway. . .I'm sure your brother will like whatever you give him. It's the thought that counts."

Rukia nearly choked when Mashiro said that. "I'm not in love with any of them!" she cried in horror, whipping around to face her. "Especially not my brother! They're just people I care about." The idea of anything else didn't bear thinking about.

For that matter, she didn't share Mashiro's certainty that her brother would like the chocolate-but maybe the sentiment he would like. Who knew.

Looking over Rukia, Mashiro gave a shrug. "If you say so," she teased while going back to her cake batter mixing. "You know, it's okay to love people. Even as a fukutaichou!" She smiled as she stirred away without much worry.

When she was done mixing, she started to place the cupcake wrappers in the pan. "Just 'cause you work doesn't mean you can't have fun. I didn't let it stop me!"
