Ururu forlornly wiped at her eyes again and stuffed the tissue into her bulging pocket. Broom only instinctively clutched in her left hand she walked around the perimeter of the Shouten once again, softly calling out for Brutus. He'd been so good, taking a nap on a cushion in the shade on the deck while she'd started sweeping the yard. But then only a moment later when she'd turned back to check on him, he was gone. Gone.

She'd searched everywhere. Inside the Shouten (thankfully not running into anyone else while she was crying like this), outside the Shouten (as far as the edge of the barrier)... she'd looked everywhere.

What if he never came back? What if a stray cat or dog caught him? What if he got hurt and couldn't come back? Was he lonely? Was he okay? Maybe she would have to ask Kisuke-san if she could go search for him? Oh, how could she have lost him ( ... )

It took Hitsugaya a few moments to remember the girl's name; he didn't think they'd ever been formally introduced, despite the trips he'd made to the shouten here and again. He recognized her, of course, but it took until she spoke before he remembered her name ( ... )

Ooohhh. He said that he would have tea. Stunned that a Captain (let alone the young-but-very-serious-seeming Hitsugaya-taichou) would take her up on her humble and unpolished offer, she nodded once and extended one slightly shaking arm to invite him inside the Shouten. Ohhh. What had she gotten into?

"I-I'll not take much of your time," she said softly as they entered. Taking a deep, steadying breath she motioned Hitsugaya towards the living room. "Please make yourself comfortable. I'll just be a moment--" she glanced down at Brutus in her hands, and the rat looked almost quizzically back at her. She really shouldn't take him to the kitchen because she needed both hands free to make the tea, and she would rather not leave him alone after that scary adventure he'd just had...

Taking yet another deep breath she looked imploringly at Hitsugaya-taichou and asked, "Would it be okay if Brutus stayed in the living room with you?" After all, Brutus seemed to like him, and he'd saved him. For sure they'd get along.

What was he getting himself into? Ururu couldn't make worse tea than Hinamori, hopefully, and he'd sat through cups upon cups of that tea. (He used the word loosely there.) The girl was shaking a bit and Hitsugaya blinked. He didn't think he was that frightening, or his presence that intimidating. (He did wish differently sometimes.)

He hesitated in the doorway and sighed softly at the look on her face. Right. Watch the rat. He held out a hand. "Sure." The last thing he wanted was a rat in the kitchen with her while she made tea.

Maybe someone would send him an urgent message right about now and he'd be able to get out of here with his reputation intact. Then again, it might be too far gone to save now. Maybe he shouldn't give a damn; he'd been out here for a handful of hours already, he was ready to take a break anyway and if someone was willing to make him tea, then he was willing to sit down and enjoy it.

Rat in hand or not.

Brutus well taken care of, Ururu excused herself to the kitchen. She was very pleased to be even able to offer tea - Kisuke-san had pulled up from somewhere an electric kettle that kept the water inside warm all the time. It was really convenient and safe.

Ururu carefully spooned some of the tea leaves from Kuchiki-taichou's gift into the teapot (for only the best tea in the house would do for another captain) and filled it with hot water. Unfortunately, the only sweet that she could find to serve were some store-bought sugar cookies. She stared at the box for a moment -- she really wanted to offer something better, but this was all they had. Arranging the cookies on a plate and adding two cups, she was ready to bring the tray into the living room ( ... )
