Renji was so very startled by this show of boldness from her that for a moment, he didn't move at all. She spun away from him, dropping to a crouch in front of the headstone, and his hand swam mechanically up to his face, his fingertips brushing the side of his mouth where her lips had touched his, soft and warm. It wasn't that he was necessarily to startled that he'd been kissed--he'd received his share of pecks and smooches; he'd been rather popular back in school once people got over the strange eyebrows, and when he'd been made an officer he'd grown quite favored among his female subordinates--and more that he just...really hadn't expected that from Isane. She was usually so soft-spoken and sort of, well, shy, that he never would have pegged her for the person to make the first move.

But she had been the one to leave the flowers...so maybe he just...still had some getting to know her to do ( ... )

Isane shook her head and grinned, now trying not to laugh because of Renji's claim about his ability to make her do as such. She cast him a sideways glance, returning the shoulder nudge and leaning lightly against his side. As if having an epiphany, she snapped her fingers, like she'd just remembered something important.

"Oh, right!" she said, "he's awfully dashing and handsome, and he makes me laugh because he's such a dork." Ignoring Renji's indignant 'hey!', she plowed on with a smile. "I mean, you thought Sentarou was bad? This guy is a huge goober." A handsome, dashing goober. As she laughed and teased, Isane considered how quickly Renji was able to tip the scale, pulling her quickly away from the melancholy that liked to creep creep up on her at her sister's grave site. With a joke he disarmed her so easily and naturally.

"He's really a good guy, though, so please don't... haunt him or anything like that."
