With the 13th Division on the move it was a bit difficult to know where to submit reports, but Byakuya had managed it with a minimum of direction asking. There was something to be said for hand-delivering a paper report, but it would have been even more convenient if he'd had a trusted vice-captain to do such a thing for him. Well, the division of responsibility was working well thus far, and would work for however long it took for a suitable candidate to come forth. (Naturally he would have to be very discriminating in a choice.)

Mentally running through his current seated officers (and still rejecting every one), he walked the streets of Seireitei North back to 6th Division. Shinigami parted before him, offering short bows before hurrying on their way, but he hardly noticed them.
What he did notice was a Captain's reiatsu heading South down the same street. Ah, Kira. How unusual for him to be outside the Third.

Once the blonde man came near Byakuya gave him a slight nod in acknowledgement.

Izuru was not paying the slightest bit of attention, which considering it was Byakuya - the silent ghost of the Sixth Division - that he was rapidly approaching, was not the best idea. Luckily he managed to avoid a collision, looking up at the sudden waft of concealed spirit pressure as he got almost too close.

He halted almost too abruptly, staring for a moment, then bowing. Byakuya had a habit of sneaking up on people -- following Ichimaru so closely he'd seen it plenty of times. Even though they'd been in Captain's meetings together since then, he still could never believe himself to be anywhere near Byakuya's level, and his respect was immediate.

"Kuchiki-taichou."

A frown tugged at the edge of his mouth. Had Kira been... startled by his presence? And the man's shaky bow reminded him (rather unfavourably) of the times he'd made the same gesture as a vice-captain. At least the respect in his voice was as it should be.

Byakuya's icy eyes darted up and down the street. It was not too busy, and everyone was giving the two captains a proper breadth of space. Good.

"Kira-taichou," he replied, a light but meaningful emphasis on the title. "You have been in your office too long, and the world outside requires focused attention." A subtle reprimand, but certainly Kira should not be wandering the streets in... a daze.

It didn't take Kira long to recover, lips pressed firmly together as he straightened up again. Byakuya looked deathly serious, and delivered a line that made it clear that his lack of attention had been noted.

"Yes sir," he answered, quickly, and then, "I hope I didn't cause you any concern, I was just lost in thought, sir."

Proper respect -- he probably would never grow out of it, just like remembering to call Abarai and Hisagi 'taichou' was prooving difficult.

Byakuya's frown became deeper. "It is little concern of mine, except for that a Captain should not be so 'lost in thought' that they fail to ...properly greet another Captain."

'Properly greet' rather than 'sense'. It was only appropriate to word his reprimand thusly with a Captain, although it was a little less subtle than the last statement.
However what in the world would make Kira so oblivious? Not only was it setting a terrible example, but it could endanger his Division.

"It is no secret that you spend far too long in your office. Have you not appropriately divided up the work among the seated officers?"

Byakuya was without a fukutaichou himself, but he had not allowed the work usually done by that Seat overwhelm him. There was much that could be delegated to the other seated officers. And the rest, he did as he had to do.
