Kon really had to question whether this chore was necessary. Privately of course, since Urahara would start spinning some wild tale about all the terrible things he could do to him just so he could scare him half to death for asking ( ... )

"Um..."

Starting was the hardest part. Where should she start? Her eyes flicked to the duster and mask. She could feel a little blush coming to her cheeks in embarrassment, suddenly wondering if this was a good idea after all, stopping him to ask such a question.

"You... don't mind taking a break? If you have to keep working... it's nothing, really..."

He tilted his head to the side when Ururu backpedaled. Why would she do that? She wanted to talk to him, right? The idea that someone could have trouble initiating conversation was a foreign one to Kon. He didn't quite get the fear. After all, the worst that could happen was that you looked stupid, and Kon had gotten used that ages ago.

But just because he couldn't understand, that didn't mean that he wasn't sympathetic.

"Mind? Of course not!" Kon laughed. "I've been at this for way too long, anyway. I can spare some time if you've got something you wanna talk about. Not like the lights are gonna go anywhere, right?" He rested his chin in his hands and smiled broadly. "So go ahead with whatever you wanted to talk about."

Lips pressed together, Ururu gave a determined nod. Kon-san was being really nice, so he should be easy to talk to. She hoped.

Sedate violet eyes doing their best to stay focused on Kon's face, Ururu asked, "Kon-san, um... I wanted to ask, what happened to the stuffed lion you were usually in?"

He blinked. She wanted to know about the plushie? He had bad memories of being inside the plushie in Ururu's presence; she got weirdly violent impulses for no reason that he could figure.

His eyes widened, and his hands started to shake. But then he shook his head, forcing himself to calm down. This was silly. Ururu didn't mean anything bad. She was just curious, not trying to remind him of more terrifying days. She wasn't mean like that.

"Oh, that?" he asked, making every effort to sound nonchalant. "I keep that in my room back home. I mean, I've got the gigai now, but it'd be a shame to get rid of such a fine-looking stuffed animal, wouldn't it?"

Well, it wasn't quite as fine-looking as it used to be after Isshin's zanpakutou spirit had gotten ahold of it. And then Isshin had tried to fix it, which didn't work out particularly well. Seriously, could nobody treat a representation of the king of the jungle with respect? But at least he hadn't been in it at the time ( ... )
