Characters: Yamada Hanataro and Mikagami Sachiko When: October 28, lunch-ish Where: Fifth Division offices Rating: G/PG Summary: Hanatarou goes to talk with Sachiko about what might be in the tunnels.
To say Sachiko was surprised would have been a gross understatement. She was downright startled by what she'd found, and honestly wasn't quite sure what to make of it. Sensing Hanatarou's reiatsu approaching the building, Sachiko moved down the hall to tap lightly on the frame of Renji's office door, peeking in through the standard six-inch gap he usually left it ajar.
"Sir, I'm gonna take lunch now, if that's okay?" she asked, and Renji glanced up briefly from his report to blink at her, and a look of surprise washed over his face.
"You mean you actually eat?" he asked facetiously. Sachiko rarely left the desk, even on her lunch breaks. Renji had only actually seen her consume food like three times. "You're not runnin' off and moonlighting at other divisions, are ya?" he asked with a grin. "Cuz I won't have that."
"Of course not, sir," she replied crisply. "But I figured since I get a lunch break I might as well actually make use of it once in a while." She canted her head. "Can I get you something? You haven't eaten yet

It took a couple of tries before he found someone he could ask about where to find Sachiko. There was no hesitation at all in the response that if she were to be found anywhere, it would be main office at this time of day. He peeked down the hallway and heard Sachiko calling his name.
Hanatarou managed a nervous smile. "The word 'interesting' keeps popping up..." he said and rubbed the back of his neck. Still, he followed where she lead with a curious smile on his face. "But it is a bit unusual there wasn't anything about this in the maps we keep back at the Fourth. Nothing extensive like you've found, I'm sure! But at least enough to keep the trainees from getting lost..." Hanatarou shuddered at the memory of bright and perky little trainee who was considerably less enthusiastic about her new duties when she was found at the end of the night shuddering in a tunnel just a few feet from an exit.
"Well it's a relevant word!" she assured him. She couldn't quite say if what she'd found was good or bad, but it was definitely interesting. "I think those tunnels aren't part of the official maps because they were never part of the official system," she said quietly, and nodded toward the door, grabbing her zanpakutou from where it rested against her chair behind the desk and slinging it onto her back. "Come on, it'll be easier to explain when I have the maps

The room wasn't what he was expecting but it couldn't have belonged to anyone else. Papers and plants and it looked like a garden brought indoors and tucked away in the corner of a library. He spent a moment looking around before he sat down where Sachiko indicated, still looking around from one wall of the room to the next, seeing a new flash of green and color with every glance

Sachiko picked up a heavy volume from the floor, resting it carefully atop the maps, upside-down so Hanatarou could read it as she opened to a bookmarked page.
"The Shirogawa clan was an old family of nobles from long ago," she explained. "There's not a lot of information about them, but apparently their whole clan was exiled from Seireitei hundreds of years ago for engaging in forbidden research of the King's Realm." She turned the page to reveal a sketchy old drawing of a sprawling estate with gabled roofs. "The Shirogawa were smiths," she explained. "Masons, carpenters--they helped build a lot of Seireitei, and most of the tunnel system beneath the city is their handiwork."
She met Hanatarou's eye then.
"Hanatarou-san, did you ever stop to think about what might happen if Seireitei was put on lockdown?" she posited, furrowing her brow. "Since the high walls are made of sekkiseki, we can't fly over them. And if the gates are all sealed, the senkaimon frozen...we would all be trapped here, you know
